The Atlanta Braves are at rock bottom after allowing the Arizona Diamondbacks to score seven runs in the ninth inning yesterday in an 11-10 loss.

It was the Braves' fourth loss in a row and 11th in their last 14 overall, and now they head out west to take on a really good San Francisco Giants team.

However, my Braves vs. Giants predictions like the chances of Spencer Schwellenbach to end their skid.

Check out my MLB picks for this National League showdown with first pitch at Oracle Park in San Francisco scheduled for 10:15 pm ET on Friday, June 6.

My Braves vs Giants best bet: Spencer Schwellenbach to record a win (+115 at bet365)

Spencer Schwellenbach has been one of the few bright spots of this disastrous Atlanta Braves season. Atlanta is 3-11 in its last 14 games and is in the unfamiliar position of fourth place in the National League East.

Now, it’s up to the right-hander to right the ship against the San Francisco Giants. Not surprisingly, the Braves' last win came in Schwellenbach’s last start. And it was a gem.

Schwellenbach shut out a very good Boston Red Sox lineup on just five hits while striking out 11 in 6 1/3 innings pitched. It was also his second consecutive start with 11 strikeouts.

Schwellenbach is pitching to a 2.16 ERA and has a 26.4% strikeout rate over his last five starts, and while the Giants are a scrappy bunch and doing a solid job of competing the uber-tough National League West, their performance at the plate continues to be inconsistent, particularly when facing right-handed pitchers.

The Giants enter this game ranked 23rd in batting average, 24th in OPS, and 22nd in wRC+ when facing righties this season.

San Francisco counters Schwellenbach with a young right-handed pitching prospect of its own in Hayden Birdsong.

The 23-year-old began the year as a long reliever for the Giants, but has been thrust into the rotation recently. This will be his fourth start of the season.

His first three included matchups against the Kansas City Royals and the Miami Marlins, where he pitched very well. The other was against the Detroit Tigers, and that was a little tougher allowing three runs on five hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings.

Additionally, Birdsong’s expected ERA is more than a run higher than his ERA, so we could see more of a regression here.

The Braves, for all their flaws, are still an above-average hitting team and are getting better now that Ronald Acuna Jr. is back in the lineup every day.

I’m betting that lineup stakes Schwellenbach to an early lead, and he carries his team for most of the game, earning himself his fifth win of the season.

Braves vs Giants same-game parlay (SGP)

Spencer Schwellenbach to record a win

Matt Chapman Over 1.5 total bases

Ronald Acuna Jr. Over 1.5 total bases

Schwellenbach has been great, but he can give up his fair share of hits. So, a Giants player I’m targeting is Matt Chapman.

The Giants' third baseman is notoriously streaky, and luckily for him, he’s on a hot streak. Chapman is hitting .429 with a 1.265 OPS over his last eight games. That includes five extra-base hits. He’s gone Over 1.5 total bases six times during that stretch. Let’s bank on him doing it again tonight.

Let’s get back to Acuna. You can’t blame him for the Braves' woes. He’s done everything he can to help his team win.

The Braves slugger is hitting .333 with a 1.056 OPS with four home runs and seven RBIs during his first 12 games since returning to the lineup. He’s also had at least one hit in all but two games. Let’s add Over 1.5 total bases to this same-game parlay, something he’s done eight times already.
