Our Braves vs. Dodgers prediction backs Los Angeles, as the home team is favored in Hollywood.
The Atlanta Braves are again opting for a bullpen day, while Blake Snell likely won't pitch super deep for the Los Angeles Dodgers. These MLB picks for Sunday, Oct. 4, don't think it'll matter much.

The Atlanta Braves’ pivot to bulk pitching from Grant Holmes after opener Ray Kerr gives the Los Angeles Dodgers an inviting contact matchup. Holmes owns a 3.44 ERA, but his 5.05 xERA and third-percentile hard-hit rate paint a less flattering picture. Even in a shorter assignment, that leaves an opening for the Dodgers to do damage before Atlanta reaches its best relievers.
Blake Snell’s contact suppression has a much stronger foundation. He finished 2025 in the 96th percentile in exit velocity allowed, following a 99th-percentile hard-hit rate in 2024.
Atlanta’s counter is bullpen availability. MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports that every high-leverage reliever is available and Didier Fuentes could cover multiple innings, giving the Braves flexibility to pull Holmes before trouble compounds. That keeps me away from the run-line, but Snell and the opportunity against Holmes will push this series to 2-0.

Braves vs Dodgers combo
Mookie Betts’ low chase rate fits a matchup with Holmes, whose slider is his primary weapon. Betts can make him work inside the zone, where his 94.8% contact rate creates opportunities to start or extend rallies.
Snell’s outs-recorded Under targets a separate workload issue. He exited September 16 with groin tightness, then needed 77 pitches to complete four innings in his final tune-up. With that interrupted buildup, five strong innings could be plenty before Dave Roberts turns the lineup over to his bullpen.

Braves vs Dodgers home run prediction: Teoscar Hernandez
The postseason has arrived, and so has Teoscar Hernández with his Game 1 dinger.
Holmes’ fastball gives Teo something to attack if Atlanta follows the expected pitching plan. Hernández produces a .527 expected slugging percentage and 52.8% hard-hit rate against four-seamers, matching up well with a pitch Holmes throws almost 30% of the time.
Hernández also has elevated more contact this season, cutting his ground-ball rate from 35.3% to 28.7% while maintaining a 10.7% barrel rate. That combination fits the conditions at Dodger Stadium, where temperatures near 98 degrees should give his airborne contact additional carry.
Josh Inglis also likes Hernandez as one of his favorite Braves vs. Dodgers home run predictions for today's slate.
Braves vs Dodgers player prop: Blake Snell Under 16.5 outs
Snell’s September preparation makes the sixth inning an aggressive expectation. He left his Sept. 16 start with groin tightness, then threw 77 pitches across four innings in his final regular-season appearance. I see no reason why L.A. would push him with the team likely in a favorable position.
Atlanta’s available high-leverage arms also increase the likelihood of a close game, where Roberts has less incentive to let Snell navigate trouble a third time through the order.
Five effective innings would give the Dodgers a useful start, and there's little reason to ask Snell to do much more.

Braves vs Dodgers weather
Clear and hot at Dodger Stadium, with temperatures around 98 degrees at the 5 p.m. local first pitch and sliding into the low 90s later. There is no rain concern. Warm air can help carry, while the heat adds another variable for a pitcher working on short rest.
