George Springer is swinging a hot bat in July, and I like his chances to capitalize on shaky Washington Nationals pitching.
The Toronto Blue Jays open a series in Washington with a storyline start, as Max Scherzer comes off the injured list on his 42nd birthday to face his old team and their league-best offense. That said, I’m steering clear of Scherzer bets and instead looking at Toronto’s hottest hitter, George Springer, for my best bet.
Read on for my Blue Jays vs. Nationals predictions and MLB picks for this Monday, July 27 matchup.
Blue Jays vs Nationals predictions
Blue Jays vs Nationals best bet: George Springer Over 1.5 total bases (+120)
The Washington Nationals are starting left-handed swingman Andrew Alvarez, and we know George Springer can handle lefties. His .799 OPS against southpaws over 98 at-bats leads all Toronto Blue Jays hitters, so the platoon works firmly in his favor.
Springer has also found his power in the last 30 days, homering three times, including a three-run blast on Saturday, with a .517 slugging mark in that span.
There aren’t many great home run options on this Blue Jays roster right now, but Springer is clearly seeing the ball well, and this game has the makings of a high-scoring affair.
I’d be comfortable playing Springer’s total bases prop until +100.

Blue Jays vs Nationals same-game parlay (SGP)
For the same-game parlay, I’m backing Toronto’s bats in a get-right spot.
Alvarez rarely gets through four innings and hands off to a shaky Nationals bullpen, so I like my two most reliable Blue Jays, Springer and Ernie Clement, to go Over 1.5 bases.
I’ll finish with the Blue Jays moneyline at plus money, a live price against a team whose pitching staff owns one of the worst ERAs in baseball.

Blue Jays vs Nationals home run pick: Kazuma Okamoto (+380)
Firstly, +380 is great value for a Kazuma Okamoto home run bet, given that the Jays slugger went yard in Friday’s game and is facing a lefty today. Okamoto leads the Blue Jays with five long balls off southpaws this season.
For all the good Washington does on offense, the club yields 1.38 HR/game this year, the fourth-worst mark in baseball. Alvarez may be tricky (0.3 HR/9), but the rest of this Nats staff is vulnerable, which makes me confident in Okamoto at +350 or longer.
