The Toronto Blue Jays are trying to accomplish a rare feat, and I’m not talking about winning the American League East.

I’m, of course, talking about winning a series in Tampa Bay. The pesky Rays eked out a 2-1 win last night, so now the Jays will try one more time to earn that elusive series win by handing the ball to Chris Bassitt on September 18.

Bassitt is in another one of his grooves, and my Blue Jays predictions like him to keep spinning it in this matinee matchup.

Blue Jays predictions for September 18

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Bassitt hound

Chris Bassitt Under 5.5 hits allowed (-125 at BetVictor)

One of the reasons the Toronto Blue Jays are marching towards their first AL East title in a decade is that the starting pitching has been excellent in the second half, and Chris Bassitt has certainly been doing his part.

The veteran righty is sporting a 2.30 ERA while striking out 31 batters in 27 1/3 innings pitched over his last five starts. It’s no fluke — Bassitt is limiting opposing hitters to a .175 batting average and a 2.56 FIP during that period.

I’m going to back the Jays' hurler to keep dealing in this matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays. Tampa Bay has struggled to produce in the second half of the season. It enters this game ranked 23rd in batting average and 24th in OPS while having the third-highest strikeout rate since the All-Star break.

Bassitt has a hits allowed prop sitting at 5.5, and he's kept opponents Under that number in four straight games and in six of his last eight overall.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Chris Bassitt Under 5.5 hits allowed

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 1.5 total bases

Yandy Diaz Under 0.5 hits

One guy who won’t be happy to know Chris Bassitt is dealing is Rays' first baseman Yandy Diaz.

While Diaz is a great hitter, Bassitt has consistently tied him in knots over the years. Diaz is just 2-for-14 with four strikeouts in 15 career plate appearances vs. the Blue Jays starter. That works out to an ugly .118 expected batting average and a .140 expected slugging.

On the other side of the spectrum is Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The Jays’ star slugger, who ranks in the 100th percentile in expected batting average, has great career numbers vs. Rays’ starter Shane Baz.

Vladdy is 5-for-13 with a dinger vs. Baz. Let’s take Guerrero to get into one of those Baz fastballs for extra bases and go Over 1.5 total bases.

The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It's not an interesting story. Seriously.
