We have a busy betting slate in Major League Baseball today, including Game 1 of the series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Seattle Mariners.

Vladimir Guerrero has been swinging a hot bat recently, and my Blue Jays predictions I expect that to continue tonight.

Find out why with my free MLB picks for this May 9 matchup.

Blue Jays predictions for May 9

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Guerrero takes show on the road

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 1.0 total bases (-138 at BetVictor)

The Toronto Blue Jays fly into Washington tonight to start a new series against the Seattle Mariners.

This matchup is expected to be a pitchers' duel as both teams are sending their aces to the mound. Toronto is trotting out Kevin Gausman as the M’s send Luis Castillo to the hill.

Castillo has been a strong pitcher for Seattle for years now, but for whatever reason, he seems to struggle a bit against Toronto. The Mariners' righty has a 2-2 record with a pedestrian 3.90 ERA.

Moreover, Castillo has already faced the Jays' lineup this season and gave up a season-high 10 hits through five innings in an outing back on April 20.

One player who had great success that day was Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks. Vladdy is 4-for-16 all-time against Castillo.

Additionally, Guerrero Jr. is on a roll right now, currently riding a 10-game hitting streak with a .359 batting average over that stretch, collecting 21 total bases.

I expect the offense to continue tonight, especially since Castillo’s underlying numbers suggest he’s overperforming a bit with an expected ERA of 4.07, ranking him in the 43rd percentile in the majors.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 hits

Luis Castillo Under 5.5 strikeouts

Daulton Varsho Over 0.5 hits

For the first leg of my SGP, I'll mirror the best bet and take Guerrero Over 0.5 hits

Next up is Castillo Under 5.5 strikeouts. He went Under this number in the earlier meeting this season, and Castillo's strikeout numbers are down overall this season, averaging less than one per inning. He only made it to the fifth frame last time against Toronto, and the Jays' strikeout rate is the fifth-lowest in the league.

For the final leg of my SGP, I’ll take Daulton Varsho to go Over 0.5 hits. He’s coming off a 3-for-4 night and has an OPS of 1.073 since returning to the lineup seven games ago.
