The New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics will continue a four-game series today.

Surprisingly, to some, the first two games of this series have been quite competitive. The A's held New York scoreless in the first meeting and won the game in extras. The Yankees fought back in a tight win yesterday.

I give you my free MLB picks and A's vs. Yankees predictions for Wednesday, April 24 below.

A's vs Yankees prediction

My best bet
Athletics first five +0.5 (+115 at Caesars)

My analysis
I like the Oakland A's here, or at least their value against my projection. I'm grabbing them +0.5 at +115 in the first five innings at Caesars. It's a nice edge against my projection of -110, which essentially sees this bet much closer to a coin flip.

Oakland right-hander Joe Boyle is one of the most unlucky pitchers in baseball and is due for some positive regression soon. He holds an ERA well over 7.00 with an expected one closer to 4.00.

In addition, his wOBA is much higher than the anticipated metrics beyond it. That positive regression may come here. After all, the New York Yankees haven't played well for over a week, and he matches up relatively well.

New York's story starts with the slump Aaron Judge is in. The lead story is how bad he's been against fastballs, hitting just .172 against them on the season.

That's followed by a good portion of the Yankees, too. Depending on the lineup it rolls out, they could have up to five players hitting below .200 against the fastball this season. That's music to the ears of Boyle because he's going to throw a ton, with the fastball making up nearly 60% of his pitching arsenal.

On the other side, Clarke Schmidt will take the mound for the Yankees.

While he's a solid arm for New York, he's also very hittable. His hard-hit rate and wOBA are in the Bottom 25% of baseball. While Oakland isn't a prolific offense, we don't have to ask them to do too much today.

With many things working in Boyle's favor, Oakland scratching across two runs is likely what it will take to cash this bet.

A's vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

Athletics first five +0.5

Esteury Ruiz to get a hit

We're pairing our best bet with one of Oakland's best young talents to get a hit. Ruiz has four hits in six games in April and while he's not a prolific hitter,  proven a solid ability to get on base at least once.

Given his matchup against a pitcher who gives up a good bit of contact, we like his chances to make that happen today.

  • Over/Under: Over 8 | Under 8

A's vs Yankees spread and Over/Under analysis

  • These teams have had a competitive history over the last 10 games. The Yankees own the advantage, but it's not by much, with wins in six of those 10.

  • With its recent slide, bettors are now down on the season, backing the Yankees to -1.1 units. Likewise for the Athletics, with bettors down over three units on the year.

  • There are no clear trends between these teams in the total market. Oddly enough, the teams are 5-5 to the Over head-to-head in their last 10 and 5-5 to the Over in each of their last 10 games overall.

A's vs Yankees trend

The Athletics have covered the first-five run line in 29 of their last 52 away games (+6.81 units / 12% ROI). Find more MLB betting trends for A's vs. Yankees
