A's vs Yankees Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today’s MLB Game

Clarke Schmidt offers a cutter-knuckle-curve-sweeper trifecta he’s turned into 20 ⅔ innings straight of scoreless ball. 

The New York Yankees righty has been dealing; he's thrown three consecutive quality starts, but his underlying metrics paint a different story.

Command has always been Schmidt’s issue. His 2025 K/BB rate (2.50) and 3.36 walks per nine are his worst over the last three seasons, and his 4.22 xFIP from his 2.84 ERA suggests regression. 

That regression could come today as the Athletics boast a high walk rate (9%), and their 21% strikeout rate indicates they don’t punch out enough for Schmidt to dominate them.

With a .434 xwOBA against Schmidt and a .291 BABIP vs. righties, there's strong potential for the Athletics to exploit him.

With pitching outs unavailable in SGP markets, I'm targeting Schmidt to record Under 5.5 strikeouts. 

Schmidt has fallen short of six strikeouts in three of his last five starts, and the A’s disciplined approach could force him into early counts, limiting his strikeout potential on a humid day.

Brent Rooker, Oakland’s slugging outfielder, is primed for a big game. He’s notched two or more total bases in three of his last six and crushed a homer in four at bats against Schmidt. With wind blowing out and high humidity, Rooker’s power could shine.

Aaron Judge, meanwhile, feasts on A’s starter JP Sears. Sears has surrendered five homers in his last 23 2/3 innings, and Judge has gone deep twice in eight career ABs against the lefty.
