LIV Golf Virginia picks and predictions

Brooks Koepka to win outright

+3000 at DraftKings

One of the main concerns with Brooks Koepka on the LIV circuit is his motivation. At this stage of his career, Koepka cares primarily about major championships.

As a result, his form on LIV often improves when a major, like the U.S. Open, is on the horizon. In 2024, Koepka won LIV Golf Singapore two weeks before finishing T-26 at the PGA Championship.

This season, he placed runner-up at LIV Golf Singapore and T-18 at LIV Golf Miami ahead of the Masters. Most recently, he finished T-17 at LIV Golf Korea prior to the PGA Championship.

The point is clear: Koepka fine-tunes his game with majors in sight. At 30-1, the price is too long for a player who is more than capable of winning when locked in.

Cameron Smith Top 10

+140 at DraftKings

Phil Mickelson, another LIV golfer, spoke this week about using this event to prepare for the U.S. Open. He noted the similarities between Robert Trent Jones Golf Club and Oakmont, saying: “We have greens that are rolling 14 to 15 on the Stimpmeter, just like we will next week… I think it’s a great way to prepare for [the U.S. Open] without minimizing the importance of this week.”

This course will put an emphasis on putting, and few are better on the greens than Cameron Smith. One of the finest short-game players in the world, Smith has consistently relied on his putter, earning four PGA Tour and three LIV Golf victories.

While his current ball-striking may raise concerns, his advantage on the greens will be a differentiator at this venue.

Additionally, Smith has finished inside the Top 10 in each of his past three LIV Golf events.

Caleb Surratt Top 20

+100 at DraftKings

While no one’s putter on LIV should be taken over Smith’s in the long run, Caleb Surratt’s recent form with the flat stick has been exceptional. The 21-year-old, a former SEC champion, was a notable signing for LIV with a ceiling still unknown.

Although his iron play still lags behind the more established pros, his putting has not. This season, Surratt is tied for first on LIV in fewest putts per green.

That performance has helped him notch Top-20 finishes in two of the past four events. At a venue that prioritizes putting, Surratt has a solid opportunity to contend once again.

LIV Golf Virginia field and favorites

Just three LIV members carry single-digit odds into Virginia in Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Joaquin Niemann. In addition to being the last-out LIV winner, DeChambeau also finished T-2 at the PGA Championship. He was also fifth in The Masters earlier this year.

Rahm was last seen finishing T-8 at the PGA Championship. He's yet to win an event this year and was second just once back in February at LIV Golf Riyadh.

Niemann had won two of the prior three LIV events before losing to DeChambeau in Korea.
