I was waiting for someone to post something here. I'm a little fuzzy on this, but after some digging on other sites, I found an explanation by Cisco, and I jotted down some notes on what I found. Here are my notes:

MLB 5-run chase
-------------------------
-a team wins a game by 5+ runs.
-wait 2 games
-bet against that team for next 4 games
-if team wins by 5+ runs in those 4 games, the chase is reset.
-wait 2 games
-bet against that team for next 4 games
-if team wins by 5+ runs in those 4 games, the chase is reset.
That's as much as I know on that one. Of course, I guess chase means a standard chase betting pattern.

I have two systems that have been profitable. Both are a 4-game chase.
Home Favorite Chase System
Play on a +.470 team that has lost their last 3 or more home games as a favorite of -110 or more, and is again favored at home by -110 or more. I chase for up to 4 games.
In 2005 it went 45-0 in a 4 game chase. (went 44-1 using a 3 game chase)
In 2006 it went 40-0 using a 4 game chase.
In 2007 it went 39-0 using a 4 game chase.

Rules for the 5 run chase
This is a 4-game chase
Wait for a team to win a game by 5 runs or more.
Skip that teams next 2 games.
Bet against that team for up to the next 4 games.
If the team wins by 5 runs or more during the next 4 games, skip another 2 games.
The chase ends with a win or four losses.
Progressive bet to win one unit.
After jumping all around and using the 2 gm,3 gm & 4 game combinations. I found that using the 4 gm system turned out to be the best after all.
The biggest problem I had, other than stressful gms 3&4, was sometimes chasing a lot of games at the same time which is tough on the pocketbook.
By jumping around to all three combinations I ended up at +99.32 units.
Using only the 4 gm system throughout the season produced +153.77 units.

Let me add one thing. A losing chase can cost you up to 30 units or more so to determine your unit wager take an amount you can afford to lose without losing any sleep. Let's use $150 as an example.
150/30 = $5
your unit wager should be $5.
I lost quite a few units playing Interleague games. No more of that.
The 5 run system starts from day 1 and includes all teams. I made a lot of dough on Kansas City and Washington last year.

One more thing. Very important.
Both systems stop stop before the all star break. You need to plan ahead to make sure no games overlap into the 2nd half.
Shut down for the year when the roster is expanded.
A Club's 40-man roster is a list of all the players currently reserved by a Club at the Major League level. The Major League Rules permit each Club to reserve a maximum of 40 players (excluding players on the 60-day disabled list) at any one time. From 9/1 (September 1) through the end of the season the entire 40-man roster is eligible to play for the Club at the Major League level.

Try it again.
I'm not familar with google docs. I imported the spreadsheet from Excel. Where you see 2008 dates I had game scores. Not important.
Here is how I keep up with daily activities.
Blue- begin the chase
Green- winner
Yellow- todays games
Brown- loser
gray- conflict with another team in a chase. The team already in a chase takes priority and the second team moves back a game or more. If two teams are to begin a chase on the same day I won't play that day and go against the winner the following game.

Progressive bet to win one unit.
example:
gm 1 is -125
unit wager is $5
5x1.25= 6.25
win = $5 & chase is over
lose = -$6.25
lose gm 1:
gm 2 is -175
wager is 6.25 +5 = 11.25 x 1.75 = 19.68
2nd gm wager is $19.68
win = $5 & chase is over
lose = -$19.68
lose gm 2:
gm 3 is -150
wager is 6.25 +19.68 +5 = 30.93 x 1.5 = 46.39
3rd gm wager is $46.39
win = $5 & chase is over
lose = -$46.39
lose gm 3:
gm 3 is -135
wager is 6.25 +19.68+46.39+5 = 77.32*1.35 = 104.38
4th gm wager is $104.32
win = $5
lose = $176.64 minus 35.32 units
Chase is finished either way. (unlike a martingale system)

I started this in 2005 and made money. I started to track the games in 2006 (see below) but I made a lot of data entry mistakes plus I like to go to the beach and drink beer and forget about this sometimes. I stuck with it last year just to prove that this is a pretty good system.
This is what I found at another site from 2006. At the time I was doing run lines as well.
It's not hard to backtest. Just find a team from any year that won by 5 runs or more, follow my rules, and see how you do. I think you'll be surprised.
