  Rarely do you see two high powered offenses with so many questions on Defense. Saints are a big play offense but don't forget they also gave up more 30 yd plus plays then anyone in football last year. Colt offense we all know what they can do if their clicking, Colts on defense besides the Colts playoff run of holding the run game down  [Against a one dimensional KC with a clueless coach.an aging back in Baltimore and a Pat's team that threw way too much compared to running in the championship game} they had one of the worst run defenses of all time. Sanders makes a difference for sure as he did miss lots of time regular season but with the personnel changes how much. Vegas has the O/U up there for a pro game but I am going with:
OVER 52 strong play and N.O +6 1/2 small play

hello to all. New to the forum,  but been reading on this particular game for a couple weeks. I like Indy laying the lumber 2nite plus the over if it doesnt go any higher than 54.

Playing the under 53 1/2 on this one. I see Indy scoring plenty of points, will have the defense all twisted up, in a very loud and confusing affair. N.O. won't be able to keep up with the scoring, and will actually start out trying to control the ball on the ground, eating up clock and keeping the ball out of Manning's hands.

Nobody has mentioned D. Freeney and the colts D  line.  The Saints O line is gonna have a lot of trouble containing him.  All the questions should be on the Saints left/right tackles not the colts tackles.

hello all, 1st game of the season, the public is all over indy and in love with payton. N.O. is getting no respect on the airwaves. indy might have the experence on the field and are the superbowl champs but with the running game New Orleans has and lets not forget brees is not going to laydown just because it's indy there playing, these two teams match up pretty well. now su indy might win but the 6 1/2 points look pretty good. new orleans has always had a thing about comming back in the 4th qtr when behind. i'm no pro but the 6 1/2 looks good, but i still have to see what bigdaddy has to say, along with scorpio td, he is one of the best in this forum giving advise, that will help you bring home the dollars

I agree with the NO backers...  In the recent past, previous SB champs have not fared well ATS in week 1 the following year.  I kinda-sorta like the under... but simply can't pull the trigger due to the high powered O capability on both sides.

oakdog   I'm just sticking with the over in this one at 53.

I liked the Saints in this one to start but chose to play the over.

The percentage of the defending Super Bowl champs covering ats on their 1st game of the season is below 45%.But when I compared it to the type of offense that the Colts have the percentage of the Colts covering ats brought it closer to 51% which was not nearly enough for me to choose a side.

So I took my chances that both high powered offenses and the loss of key players on defense would bring this game over the total of 53.

PICK-- SAINTS +6
Quick OPINION:
This game is going to be a 2 possession game throughout most of the third and fourth.  Its going to be one of those games where Brees leads the Saints down for a last second score to COVER THE SPREAD. 
Things to look for:
I will love to see the matchup and blocking scheme the Saints will use on Freeney,  and how REGGIE BUSH will be matched up... Payton is going to have to move him around to find the best match-ups and I have NO DOUBT the SAINTS OFFENSE can run with the COLTS offense.  BREES IS A STUD on TURF... I don't have the record on hand, but from being a Brees fan... he excells.  (AKA CHARGERS DEFEAT PATRIOTS 2005 and SAINTS 2006)
