Trump has just officially accepted the Qatari plane to one day serve as Air Force One. So he should immediately be impeached, correct?
Well, there is surely a legal conversation to have but some of the responses are interesting. But what are we really scared of?
Ted Cruz
"significant espionage and surveillance problems" Are we not the greatest nation on Earth with the best counter-intellegence?
Bernie Sanders
"Trump cannot accept a $400 million flying palace from the royal family of Qatar. Not only is this farcically corrupt, it is blatantly unconstitutional." Well he just did and I guess we'll see.
Rick Scott
"Qatar is not, in my opinion, a great ally. I mean, they support Hamas. So what I'm worried about is the safety of the president,"
Says the guy not shot in the ear and historically speaking we've aligned with people aligned with not great people
"He'll be in Qatars pocket"
uh huh.
Now just kicking around the forum a bit we have entertained conversations about how much Trump's golfing costs, so some should be happy we're saving money?
Given that a legal question/interpretation is presently unanswered and not too many on the left are concerned about the man's safety, I implore discussion as to the real issue here?

Conflicts of interest, inappropriate interaction with foreign governments especially those with awful human rights abuses. Go search on Youtube for Trump blasting Obama for dealing with the middle east countries when they have numerous human rights violations.
Hypocrisy?

My head is doing this and i truly cannot grasp how anybody can defend trump and this plane non sense. It really has come down top if trump does something there no way in hell its wrong and illegal. How can these magas keep defending trumps action which go against OUR CONSTITUTION . I honestly am dumb founded. Its like if trump said that nobody is allowed to speak out in public and if caught doing it, you will be put in jail. I believe magas would go along with it, because trump said it
Some of the posters on here, are way beyond just stirring up shit and would never admit trump is wrong no matter what he does. This really is troubling

Mostly, doing business with foreign countries is inherently wrought with conflicts of interest on a spectrum.
Inappropriate interaction
By the most public and heavily scrutinized official who is alleged to be uncontrollable?
Human Rights
For a while the right went on and on about some guy in China called Uyghur but the left insisted nothing to see here enough to disrupt business. I recall an earlier thread here talking about equal application of standards. Human rights have been violated long before this post and will long after both here and abroad.
Hypocrisy
As a noble deterent in American politics?
None of these add up for me. As with CD, I do not know how any legal argument will play out but I know two things:
1) On its surface, doesn't seem like a good idea
2) If it happens, not terribly worried about the way of life in America or becoming inservant to Qatar.

Did Trump campaign against this exact situation in 2016? He is on tv in a debate stating exactly the opposite of this choice and doing so quite strongly.
This is the definition of hypocrisy and is why Trump is a complete loser flip flop thug. When someone else does the act then it is the worst thing in the world, when he does it then it is a big beautiful non-issue.
When someone takes a stance and then does the opposite that has to mean something, but with Trump nothing means anything.

That's all politics every day and no arguments from me that its an accountability problem but the general population has a short memory so when the time comes to voice past misdeeds become moot.
My honest take, he's trolling and it'll never come to fruition.

Exactly. If you close out a nation China will move in and the main reason is Trump is trying to paint Iran into a corner. The more middle east nations he connects with the more isolated Iran becomes. Taking the jet does not violate the constitution unless he uses it for personal use. And that is where the trolling came to play, IMO. No donating it to Trump Library, etc. But if yes Trump uses it for personal use after his presidency he, IMO, has violated the Constitution.
He negotiated a good deal for Boeing to build the new Air Force 1 last term and it looks like Boeing is now losing money on it and dragging their feet.
The cost and time needed for retrofit is the question.

That works when you are not a blaming abusive hypocrite. He played the hand in 2016 and then does the exact opposite. You cannot grandstand and then flip flop to the opposite.
Quit making excuses for the guy he is a disgusting leader who will say and do anything, there is no honest bone in his body and there is no accountability or responsibility and then your side excuses every single thing he does.
What about the big beautiful bloated disgusting budget filled with military pork? Another Trump crapper, everything that comes from him is a massive joke.

Please go to the library tomorrow and actually learn about the Constitution, cause clearly you dont seem to know that congress has to approve the gift, not some fox news host acting as a defense secretary. Also estimates are that getting this plan up to air force one standards will take 1 billion or more and they dont know if the work will even be done before trump has to leave office, which we all know hes not gonna. So the tax payers have to pay for the other planes that are getting built and we have to eat the cost of this plane (because its a better luxury jet then the current air force one.) So if this plane wont be done before he has to leave office and the other planes will be ready by then, why are we accepting this plane? Oh thats right, forgot one little detail. This luxury jet will be gifted to trump when he leaves office for his so called library, which we all know is total bullshit. Why exactly does trump get to leave office with this jet as a gift. Come on please explain all you maga budget hawks. Please tell us why we have to eat this expense for trump, all while if trumps big beautiful bill passes, 13 million with lose their health care and there will be 500 billion in cuts to medicare, you know the thing some of you magas might be on now or maybe even your parents. But hey keep defending the orange criminal.

It pisses me off that idiot with the glasses (don’t know his name) that on TV defended this with “well France never wanted anything back for the Statue of Liberty” - no go figure it was a gift we gave you to symbolise our “love” and the “freedom” you guys represented for us - if you don’t know you guys are European immigrants that left because it got tough over here - that is a little bit different than an oil prince that want to buy influence - and that France’s gesture is being used to justify something like that is fucking disgusting

One of the most lavish and controversial gifts was a gold and diamond snuff box given to Benjamin Franklin after his nine-year diplomatic tour of duty in France. This led to the Emoluments Clause.
In 1997, President Clinton and wife Hillary received the gift of a handmade rug with their pictures woven into the tapestry as a gift from Azerbaijan’s leader Heydar Aliyev. The six-by-five-foot rug was completed in a single day by a team of 12 women, according to reports.

But that's exactly the point of all it. In the end its a freaking plane, but we make it about everything the man has ever done before or after entering politics.
That becomes the exact reason China takes its all eventually, though some disagree. We've gridlocked out entire system with petty bickering.

Nixon accepted two Pandas from China. Roosevelt accepted a painting from Churchill that later sold for $11.5 million. The very desk that Trump had removed from the Oval Office for refurbishing was a gift to Hayes in 1880 from Queen Victoria.
My dude's comparing a desk to a jet.
TIME TO BRING BACK THE OBAMA CAGES!

Of course you skipped over the $11.5 million painting. The point Stu is this; All these gifts were given to Presidents for the country. And as I said, if Trump uses it for personal use then there is an issue.
