 Banks are not the cause of inflation, to me the way to cure inflation is to identify the break in the process cycle in general and identify the drivers of higher costs then determine what can be done to alleviate the kinks in the JIT model, our economy has been JIT for quite some time and when a piece of the JIT work flow is not working it shuts the whole thing down and adds great cost. 

The lone negative of JIT is that when input prices dramatically increase the finished goods costs increase the same degree versus older models where corps held inventory and inputs in stock. So I imagine good corps have been focused on their JIT processes and are trying to figure ways to reduce input costs and given our economy is JIT heavy the way to slow inflation is to identify the JIT processes that are adding costs and find ways to lower those, but in reality the BEST way to lower inflation is to slow consumption.

One thing we NEVER EVER hear about inflation is about lowering consumption and that will have more of an impact on inflation than rates or JIT improvements will.

This is all 100% Trump... And as a Trump Supporter, I've always hated his position on tariffs, which is causing all this... 

Look at the big picture folks.. He and DOGE are firing all these people at the federal level (a good thing w/ a bloated govt.  and $35T in debt), and creating all this uncertainty in the private markets w/ tariffs  (a bad thing).  What CEO is going to be making any big decisions for his company in this environment ?  Companies need to make capital expenditures looking 3-5 years out.  How do you that in this environment ?  Short answer, .. you don't...   And that will effect economic growth.. which is causing all this market turmoil. 

Granted,  markets were expensive going into Trump's presidency, but this is completely self-inflicted by Trump... and just unnecessary. 

  You need a strong private market to absorb all these people he's firing at the federal level... and he should've just left the tariffs alone.  

Also, people should go watch Trump's interview w/ Maria Bartiromo over the weekend, if they want to understand what happened today.  I watched it yesterday, and was surprised to see the Futures Market down only a couple hundred points last evening.  Trump is willing to see pain in the markets to achieve his objective.... but the problem is his objective is misguided in using tariffs as a tool.  

You do know tax cuts to the rich is a major portion of this 37 trillion dollar debt and your boy wants to add 4.7 more trillion to it.  Honestly your post makes zero sense, you say you hate tariffs and they cause this problem, yet you voted for this con artist who told everybody over and over again that he was gonna do these tariffs.  Did you think he was joking?  You must enjoy inflicting pain on yourself. I mean people were warned in advance of the blueprint trump was gonna follow and the damage it would cause.  Guess people thought it was just a joke or make believe. Well folks its no joke and it is real. Trump is trying his hardest to weaken our country.

The market is down 1100 points today.

 In humble opinion this inflation is a self inflicted wound! This is not a temporary and there is good reason to worry! Show me an economist that embraces tariffs in line with the Trump administration’s moves ? You know vastly more then I!

In 2017, then-U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer decided to impose tariffs on all imported large residential washing machines. When these duties were imposed in January 2018, they started at 20%. After a quota of 1.2 million imported washers was reached, the duties rose to 50%. 

In 2018, LG Electronics completed an investment of $360 million in a new smart factory in Clarksville, to be staffed with 700 employees. In April 2021, the company announced that it had produced 1 million washing machines at Clarksville. LG then announced that it was investing a further $20.5 million and hiring 300 more employees in Clarksville. And then, in December 2022, LG announced three new model washing machines to be made in Clarksville.

Similarly, in 2018, Samsung built an appliance manufacturing facility in Newberry, South Carolina, investing $350 million and hiring 1,000 employees.  This was so successful that in 2020, Samsung invested an additional $120 million to expand the facility. It now employs 1,200 workers.

Essentially, by incentivizing both LG Electronics and Samsung to open and then expand manufacturing facilities in the United States, the tariffs achieved the best of both worlds. They led to the creation of more U.S.-based competitors—with more jobs and more competition. And, they resulted in more domestic product innovation as well. Finally, the only impact on prices was gone in a few months, and washing machine prices declined to pre-tariff levels.

 That's an interesting story on LG.  Thanks for sharing that.  

I think the most important words in the article were "smart factory"....  Because if LG & Samsung weren't able to make their production lines more efficient, then adding U.S. workers would have certainly made their washing machines made in the U.S. more expensive for U.S. consumers.  

BUT, implementing robotics/automation would certainly take costs out of their manufacturing , perhaps making up for all of the additional cost in hiring a U.S. worker (as opposed to an Asian worker on their Asian production line).   The American Consumer may not even end up paying more for an American Made washing machine as the article states,... but LG & Samsung had to dive through hoops in their manufacturing process to make that possible. 

Smart Factories are great where they can be implemented, but I would think this would be very hard to replicate in the Automotive Sector (as an example), due to the high degree of robotics, automation already implemented ..  The Trump Administration has a fixation on the Auto Industry, but I have hard time seeing how these tariffs will work out well for the U.S. consumer that wants to buy a car.  They will be the ones getting screwed.  

That means LG was able to make its production lines more efficient (i.e. less costly) by implementing more robotics, etc.   That would be the only way to make the economics work...    So, your're able to take some cost out, but you're adding a more costly U.S. worker... So, the net effect may be neutral... so maybe no/little effect to the U.S. consumer. 

It's a good move by LG if it doesn't have to invest to many millions of dollars to implement robotics, etc. to get that production cost down.. and weigh that decision vs. tarriff costs if they didn't do anything at all. 

But again, by moving production back to the U.S. for anything (autos for example) is tricky, because the U.S. consumer "will" pay more for cars if the auto companies cannot make their production costs more efficient.  Seeing how the auto industry already uses robotics a lot, that would seem to be a hard feat..

I had the same reaction UNIMAN......   Truth is just not a left-wing value.
