Well you know the answer there the pay has to be based on the size of their product and the return they bring as players to that product. So bowlers get less than football players and rock climbers get less than baseball players.
Id say WNBA should have the same revenue/profit sharing agreement that the NBA has and based on the revenues and profits they would be paid accordingly, that seems reasonable and fair if the ratios are the same.

We heard this from NBA franchises for decades and the problem is that the lack of financial clarity does not give full disclosure to what the teams are really earning. If the teams would provide audited financials then the teams could negotiate what is fair for both parties and if as you say the financials do not support it then if the teams were audited from outside parties and verified then players would understand. I am unaware if teams have independent auditors who provide income and balance sheet data, I would be surprised if that were the case...notice I said independent.

Just because someone has some benefit does not mean there is equality and you have NO idea what the balance might be if all groups had the same balance from the beginning. It would take 100 years to undo the poverty structure and a massive imbalance and redistribution IF you were serious about equity.

@wallstreetcappers That's a good question. The teams have to pay it in the NBA. I am not sure if the WNBA has it set up that way. I assume so. It is an operational cost. But because of the lack of scale they simply need more of a share of the revenue to attempt to grow and just to operate.

The largest difference is the TV and sponsorships. It is around 50% in NBA and is huge.
It is much, much smaller in the WNBA and is their main source of revenue dollar-wise. So, it has to be far higher %-wise. But the total amount is so much smaller.
So, in order to run the coaches salaries, staff, etc. is just too much to overcome for them at this point.
It does appear that a few teams are turning a slight profit now.
But in order to grow the amount on TV dollar-wise they have to expand the interest somehow.

Because of the difference in aim for growth and target group, etc. it is different than in other businesses. Say, a mom-and-pop coffee shop will pay around 30% of their revenue to their baristas. However, say Starbucks, will pay less than 15% of their revenue to their baristas. So, in sense it is similar to this. The NBA and WNBA just cannot be compared because of scale and growth target at this point.
