DUFL - Racist Shooting Massacre on May 14, 2022 in Buffalo, New York

DUFL - I try not discuss social or political issues on the Covers NCAAF Forum, for obvious reasons...But, I recall that you live in the Buffalo, New York area, and if am not mistaken, that you are an African American.  And you are prominent poster here on the Covers.com NCAAF Forum.      

This was a cold, calculated, racist murder by a criminally insane young adult...   It is a poor reflection of our society.   Supposedly, this individual was radicalized online.  He was able to purchase the AR-15 legally, even though he had documented mental health problems and he had made previous dire threats.   I sincerely hope that justice will be served, and the appropriate "terminal" punishment will be doled out.   This seems to happen again and again...Radical extreme right wing groups which includes the New American Nazi Party, fascists, skinheads, and the KKK have been given legitimacy by a certain former President...when their movement was almost dead...And yes, in order to maintain balance here...there is also way to much gang killing in the inner cities, that must stop......It is a societal problem, where we must do something...to prevent further bloodshed...

My heart goes out to the citizens of Buffalo, and in particular those in the African American community for this senseless and racist shooting rampage and murder...And I sincerely hope that you and your family remain in good health...

  Mods, please move this thinly veiled political statement the hell out of the College Football Forum.

Based on information provided by DUFL over the years, he lives in the Buffalo Area, he is African American, and may be a retired police officer….Thus, my concerns are legitimate…

Apparently, more republicans tend to believe in crazy replacement theory than democrats.  Politicians, cable news and social medias that promote such paranoid conspiracy deserve to be denounced.  Racism, white supremacy and mass shooting are unacceptable.  Also majority of domestic terrorism comes from far right extremists.  In contrast, only a tiny fraction of terrorism from far right according to Center for strategic studies. 

Experts recommend stronger gun control and hate speech laws.  Otherwise, white supremacists will continue to commit hate crimes.  Unlike Trump, Biden administration joined over 50 countries and 8 tech companies in supporting Christ church agreement to limit content violent extremists can post online.

The last stats I remember seeing a few years ago, showed that Canada had one-seventh (14%) of the gun violence compared with the US ---> PER CAPITA!

Correction: tiny fraction of terrorism from far left according to Center for strategic studies.  Homeland security department recognizes white supremacists as top domestic terrorism threat in the US.

Canada is safer for several reasons.  First, citizens  undergo mandatory training before obtaining a gun license.  Instructor can deny a license to student because of mental health concerns, potential threat, court order or lying on application.  Secondly, applicants must undergo robust background check.  Government checks criminal record, references and interviews family members.  Third, applicants must wait 28 days before taking gun possession.  Fourth, broad public support for gun laws.  No constitutional guarantee for Canadians the right to own guns.  Fifth, greater effort to identify potential sources of gun violence.  Police run frequent database checks on gun license owners to ensure they haven't engaged in recent criminal activity.

I'll  trust your research on this, but it does seem to support what I've heard elsewhere about Canada's gun laws

It’s unlikely that last weekend’s racist massacre in Buffalo will stop right wing media from pushing the racist “great replacement theory” but a chorus of hosts, pundits and at least one Republican politician are now calling it out.

The loudest criticism has been for Fox News, specifically its prime-time shill Tucker Carlson, who talks about replacement theory–the false idea that there’s a conspiracy to displace whites for person, Blacks and immigrants in the United State–almost daily on his show.

On Monday, several hosts on rival network MSNBC called out Fox and Carlson for promoting the idea to their millions of mostly white, conservative viewers.

Replacement theory was cited by the 18-year-old who is charged with driving more than 200 miles from his home to murder 10 people at a Tops supermarket in a Black neighborhood in Buffalo.
