It was OK when Comey leaked damaging info about Hillary Clinton just before the election

the FBI is conducting three simultaneous, but likely related, inquiries:

    1)  find the people behind the Democratic National Committee computer breaches;

    2) identify the hacker or hackers who stole and leaked John Podesta’s emails;

    3)  a “counterintelligence inquiry [that] includes but is not limited to examination of financial transactions by Russian individuals and companies who are believed to have links to Trump associates.”

Comey’s own intrusions into the election look worse and worse with each passing day of the Trump administration.

Comey announced in July that he’d recommended no charges be filed against Hillary Clinton, despite what he called her “extremely careless” handling of classified information through the use of a private email server. But eleven days before the election, he told several congressmen in a letter that there might be new evidence in the email investigation—or there might be nothing. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid wrote to Comey shortly afterward, decrying “the clear double-standard” Comey appeared to exhibit. “As soon as you came into possession of the slightest innuendo related to Secretary Clinton,” Reid wrote, “you rushed to publicize it in the most negative light possible.”

White House bars some news organizations from briefing

The White House excluded several major U.S. news organizations, including some it has openly criticized, from an off-camera briefing held by the White House press secretary on Friday, representatives of the organizations said.

Reporters for CNN, The New York Times, Politico, The Los Angeles Times and BuzzFeed were not allowed into the session in the office of press secretary Sean Spicer.

Spicer's off-camera briefing, or "gaggle," replaced the usual televised daily news briefing on Friday in the White House briefing room. He did not say why those particular news organizations were excluded, a decision which drew strong protests.

Reuters was included in the session, along with about 10 other news organizations, including Bloomberg and CBS.

Spicer said his team decided to have a gaggle in his office instead of a full briefing in the larger White House briefing room.

"Our job is to make sure that we're responsive to folks in media. We want to make sure we answer your questions, but we don't need to do everything on camera every day,” he said.

Reporters at the Associated Press and Time magazine walked out of the briefing when hearing that others had been barred from the session.

Off-camera gaggles are not unusual. The White House often invites handpicked outlets in for briefings, typically for specific topics. But briefings and gaggles in the White House are usually open to all outlets and they are free to ask anything.

A pool reporter from Hearst Newspapers was included in the gaggle on Friday, White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said, and was preparing a pool report for distribution to the entire press corps. Media outlets allowed into the gaggle also shared their audio with others.

President Donald Trump has regularly attacked the media. Earlier on Friday, at a gathering of conservative activists, he heaped criticism on news organizations that he said provide "fake news" and called them an "enemy" of the American people.

Spicer's decision drew a sharp response from some of the media outlets that were excluded.

"Nothing like this has ever happened at the White House in our long history of covering multiple administrations of different parties," Dean Baquet, executive editor of The New York Times, said in a statement.

"We strongly protest the exclusion of The New York Times and the other news organizations. Free media access to a transparent government is obviously of crucial national interest."

The White House Correspondents Association, or WHCA, also protested.

"The WHCA board is protesting strongly against how today's gaggle is being handled by the White House," said Jeff Mason, president of the association and a Reuters reporter.

Trump says some news organizations lie and on Friday denounced their use of anonymous sources. Critics say Trump's attacks endanger press freedoms.

During the election campaign last year, Trump's team banned a few news organizations, including The Washington Post and BuzzFeed, from covering his campaign rallies for a period of time to protest their coverage.

CNN posted a Twitter message on Friday afternoon saying: "This is an unacceptable development by the Trump White House. Apparently this is how they retaliate when you report facts they don’t like. We’ll keep reporting regardless.”

Ben Smith, editor-in-chief of BuzzFeed News, said in a statement: "While we strongly object to the White House's apparent attempt to punish news outlets whose coverage it does not like, we won't let these latest antics distract us from continuing to cover this administration fairly and aggressively."

The irony of Trump whining about leaks, which he called "fake news" , is quite profound

Donald J. Trump relentlessly released  "fake news" about Obama.

From an extremely credible source telling that Obama birth's certificate is a fraud to
another source (not sure how extremely credible that one was) doubting Obama Ivy's league education.

Trump wanted the president of the United States to show him his “papers” for something else–all his school transcripts and all passports–no later than October 31, 2012 at 5:00 P.M.  sharp. In return for showing his transcripts and all the passports he owned since birth, Trump was going to donate $5 million dollars to any charity of the president’s choice.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di0xTIUxQLc

He took credit for " forcing Obama to release his birth certificate,"

    but he never apologized
Instead, he deflected responsibility, placing the blame for his prejudice on someone else.  “Hillary Clinton and her campaign of 2008 started the birther controversy,” Trump lied.

As it turned you were wrong( fake news/fake reporting) and it was the Bureau cleared Mike Flynn's of wrongdoing...

Hillary Clinton is NOT the President of the USA
    PizzaGate is fake news conspiracy

The fake "Pizzagate" story alleged that former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and her campaign chair John Podesta were using the pizzeria as the base for a child trafficking ring.

The story originated on 4chan and in a Reddit thread, where commenters made a number of unsubstantiated and false claims to tie Clinton and her staff to the non-existent pedophilia ring.

Trump-Russia ties need to be investigated

After Michael Flynn'resignation, the saga involving his and President Trump's campaign's connections to the Russian government and the controversy surrounding Russian interference in the 2016 election remains.

A Republican lawmaker who supported Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election said a special prosecutor should investigate reported communications between the Trump campaign and Russians known to US intelligence, not Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

"You are right that you cannot have somebody, a friend of mine -- Jeff Sessions -- who was on the campaign and who was an appointee," California Rep. Darrell Issa said Friday on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher." "You're going to need to use the special prosecutor's statute and office ... not just to recuse. You can't just give it to your deputy. That's a political appointee."

Issa said an investigation might not reveal any fault on the part of Trump's associates, but a special prosecutor is needed given the growing awareness of the dangers posed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"We're going to have to do it," he told Maher. "There may or may not be fault, but the American people ... are beginning to understand that Putin murders his enemies."
"We're going to ask the Intelligence Committees of the House and Senate to investigate within the special areas that they oversee," added Issa, who sits on the House Oversight and Foreign Affairs committees.

The Senate committee will examine the extent of contacts that President Donald Trump's associates had with Russian officials before and after the Nov. 8 vote. In particular, it plans to look into conversations that Michael Flynn, who was ousted last week as Trump's national security adviser, had with the Russian ambassador during the presidential transition.

Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chairman Mark Warner said he contacted CIA Director Mike Pompeo and Burr to express his "grave concerns" about the communications.

"I have called Director Pompeo and Chairman Burr to express my grave concerns about what this means for the independence of this investigation and a bipartisan commitment to follow the facts, and to reinforce that I will not accept any process that is undermined by political interference," the Virginia Democrat told CNN in a statement.

"I am consulting with members of the Intelligence Committee to determine an appropriate course of action so we can ensure that the American people get the thorough, impartial investigation that they deserve, free from White House interference," he said.
Warner challenged Republicans to take the investigation seriously.

"It will be up to Republican leadership to demonstrate in the days ahead that they are capable of pursuing this investigation 'wherever it leads,'" he added. "I have said from the very beginning of this matter that if SSCI [Senate Select Committee on Intelligence] cannot properly conduct an independent investigation, I will support empowering whoever can do it right."

The story of the week is Trump, Russia and the FBI. The rest is a distraction

The White House reportedly tried to influence an active counter-intelligence investigation. All else, press ban included, is designed to deflect attention

Narrative switching. That is what the Trump administration is desperately trying to do around Russia right now. The White House reportedly interfered with the FBI in the middle of an active investigation involving counter-intelligence. This was not only foolhardy but also suspicious, as it directly undermined their apparent objective: distracting us.

On 14 February, the New York Times reported that advisors and associates of Donald Trump may have been in direct and continuous contact with officers of the Russian intelligence agency, the FSB, during a tumultuous election campaign in which the American democracy itself was hacked. A major party – now in opposition – was the victim of an unprecedented cyber attack.

According to the Times, intercepted telephone calls and phone records indicated to American counter-intelligence officers direct contact with the Russians.

The stakes are high. Most Democrats and more than a few Republicans believe this investigation could unearth details that could plunge the nation into a political and constitutional crisis not seen since the secession of the South in 1860 and 1861.

The Trump administration has repeatedly denied the characterization and defended the campaign’s conduct. However, its denials have always been couched in the most legalistic terms and each falls apart with every new revelation. It doesn’t help that Trump himself calls the allegations “fake news” then validates the reporting by attacking the leaks – suggesting that they are true.

Now, thanks to CNN, we learned on Thursday that Trump chief of staff Reince Priebus had reportedly contacted the deputy director of the FBI, Andrew McCabe, and requested that the bureau publicly characterize the Times story as not being serious – in McCabe’s reported words, “total BS”.

When this was rebuffed by McCabe, Priebus reportedly went to FBI director James Comey, who allegedly also refused to comment publicly. Priebus then allegedly asked both if he could quote them anonymously as “top intelligence officials”, saying the story was totally wrong. According to CNN, McCabe and Comey agreed to let him do that, despite the fact that the FBI and the White House are prohibited from communicating about open investigations.

The White House then turned to other intelligence officials and to members of Congress. According to the Washington Post, House and Senate intelligence committee chairs Devin Nunes and Richard Burr were asked to push back against Russian stories that did not favor the administration. They told the Post they did so.

No matter what the contention, the fundamental fact exists that the FBI, based on McCabe’s and Comey’s remarks, has inadvertently verified that there is, in fact, a counter-intelligence investigation going on involving the associates of the president. Until now the investigation had only been reported through anonymous sources.

This bungled attempt to manage the media reveals the fear in the White House: that there may actually be a smoking gun that ties Trump to Moscow’s hacking.

It is always possible that Trump’s then campaign manager, Paul Manafort, former adviser Carter Page and others may have been in contact with Russians as part of foreign policy development. But given the political environment in the summer of 2016, after the hack of the Democratic National Committee, it is very hard to believe that any continuous and repeated contact with the Kremlin was completely innocent.

Priebus’s clumsy attempt to perform perception management judo only added fuel to the fire. Then it was raked over with Trump’s often incomprehensible flamethrower rhetoric when he declared CNN reporting “fake news” and had them banned, with the New York Times and other outlets including the Guardian, from a press gaggle on Friday.

Any investigation involving Trump advisers and Russian intelligence is serious stuff. If born out, it has the potential to become the greatest political scandal in American history. But this meddling by the White House is one step too far. It is not typical Washington pushback. It smacks of a strategy of cover-up.

It is high time for the House and Senate to form independent select subcommittees to ferret out the truth. The key questions are simple. What did Trump and his staff know about the hacks? When did they know it and were they complicit in any way?

If American citizens worked alongside a foreign power to interfere in American democracy, it must be found out and quickly. It is crucial to retain the trust in our president and the electoral process. The stakes are nothing less than the legitimacy of American liberal democracy.

How did you know Flynn did not violate the Logan Act ?

I don't believe you understand the content of the Logan Act or you probably wouldn't be asking...and since.... no one,no one has ever been found guilty of violating The Logan Act in 200 years ..I'm will to bet this won't either..the facts are not there..

When you said it it's not fake news

Can you take it ease on debating with emoticons?

it's still not clear what Flynn said to Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak about the sanctions, and on whose orders

The spotlight is back on Comey

I am not interested in your pissing contest  who's wrong who's right BS

I've noticed when someone is on the wrong side of a debate ..they are never interested in who's right or wrong... looks to be true in this case...

I see,so you're saying you didn't post this thread to debate the topic...but to provoke and anger people ...eventually to mock in an insulting manner...and finally resorting to calling names to anyone who disagrees with your cut and paste articles from the
    democraticunderground...

You should have been more honest and said so 4 pages ago...very sad..
