i am new to no limit...gone 5 times played 1-2 here in florida...100 buy in max.... i won 600 lost 300, won 460 lost 50 and today i lost 200...got unlucky with AA QQ among others but heres the hand

1-2 NL 1st idiot to act raises to $5 i look down at JJ and make it $15 next 5 people fold then a late position guy goes all in for $145... now i was up $50 at the time and i had $250 on front of me (i rebought  for $100)  ... i thought about it and folded i just didnt see the point of calling $130 preflop raise... i may have had the best hand and this fuckin dummy couldve been wanting to just win the $23 that was out there or maybe he had something and was just an idiot and made it $145

would you have folded? or just call and  if he has one of 3 hands that beat you then oh well?

It is going to be weird hearing this from me, given my username and all, but I would have folded.

Something would have been fishy to me with a raise that size and you didn't have a whole lot in there anyways, save the money and live to fight another day.

It all depends on the reads you have on his play. Where I play which is higher stakes than this, people seem to autoshove Ak alot. From what you say I would lean towards folding here, particularly if you haven't got many buy ins with you. Love the first guy's raise to 5 bucks, normally in Vegas games they make it 10 or 12 minimum. Didn't you used to live in Vegas? 1/2 NL is truly terrible in Sin City (i.e good). Good to see you've made the switch to NL, a much juicier game at those stakes.

I think you played it right, you really didnt have enough in the pot to make yourself call the 130 more and if you are beat you only got a 20% chance of catching up, so solid play IMO.

I think you played it right, you really didnt have enough in the pot to make yourself call the 130 more and if you are beat you only got a 20% chance of catching up, so solid play IMO.

I think it is a call.  Not knowing previous tendencies, it is hard to say for sure, but I think it is extremely likely the guy that went all in does not have aces or kings.  He wants to win more than 20 bucks with his aces.  I think he has a medium pair like Nines and he is trying to either buy the pot or be in a coin flip.  If he is a reckless player he could have garbage.

Safe play is to lay it down, but if you are in the position to gamble, then this would be a good spot.  Most of the time when people overbet the pot by a large margin, they have garbage and are showing off their poker "skill".

I put him on a smaller pair and call for a buck and change he could easily have 99 or 1010 where you have him dominated.  Affording to call is one of the luxuries some players have over others.  One thing about pre-flop all ins you always have outs.

I would have folded JJ in an instant based on risk/reward.  You were likely either dominated by a higher pair, or in a race situation versus 2 overcards.  If you only had $50 or less in chips, I would've called and rebought even if I lost.  But you had a good amount of chips at risk in front of you.

And for the person above that said he may only have AK, I still wouldn't call if he turned that hand over before the flop.  Good players don't risk large amounts of cash in coin flip situations.

NJ, if you find out later on that this player is a loose cannon and shows down a lot of questionable pockets after big raises, by all means, call him.  But without knowing the type of player you are up against, it is best to play it safe early on.

    Wrong!

Good players do not pass up on +EV situations. If he shows you AK, you snap call. You're a favourite and you're getting laid 7:6 odds.

As for the hand, without reads, it's a pretty easy fold.

And I would like your 3bet to about $18, but that''''''''''''''''''''''ust me nitpicking.

I don't know I think I would have called. I think you might have had the best hand preflop. If he has aces, kings or queens unless he's an idiot why would he go all-in when there wasn't that much in the pot? I'm sure 85% of players would slowplay those hands or raise slightly trying to induce a call but not all-in. I think that if went all-in like that with not much in the pot he was just trying to pick up the blinds.

I think you made the right decision.  You could have had him crushed with an over pair or been crushed if he had QQ KK or AA.
However you made it 15 to go and "5 people folded after you". In a game where the buy in is 100 bucks max people call with KQ or ace-ten, even ace-rag in alot of cases. You said 5 folded behind you that very possibly means alot of low junk cards were dealt. So if the guy who reraised you had a AK or AQ your race might have started with alot of low cards, which of course are the cards you want to see dealt, already in the muck. Making your race, which you dont want anyway for all your money, even more difficult to win. I agree I think  you made the correct fold.
    Good luck

this is a very easy fold, 95% of the time you're a coin flip at best here against the reraiser, plus the original raiser is still in play.

Good point.  Good players risk their WHOLE bankroll on miniscule edges.  These people are called amateurs for a reason.    And apparently you are 1 of them.

Similar situation for me in Vegas the other week.

One or 2 limpers (1-2NL) infront of me. Im middle position.

    QQ, I make it 15.

few guys fold, guy near button makes it 50. He had sat down about 3-4 hands before that. Some young kid it seemed, barely 21.

I layed it down. Not sure right move but I did.

I put him on AA, or JJ...or possibly AK although I think he would have just called there.

In a tournament I would say call he's probably holding AK suited or better.

But in a cash game I think you made the right fold, you have more time to pick your spots.   JJ seems to be a great hand but it's still considered marginal, just a little better than tens and a little worse than queens.
