Again, the white male feels afflicted. This time they come in the form of an apparent moderator of little self-worth or self-confidence.
How embarrassing it must be for a creator and/or facilitator of this site to have its members come to the realization they have people running it who know so little about a sordid aspect of American history.
The thread that got me here used the term "white" and "caucasian" because whites have been, and are currently, the dominant group of our time, and the dominant intellectual culture will serve the interests of that group.
What was the dominant intellectual culture in those commercials? It was the subjugation and exploitation of women. Men continually indoctrinated a 'know-your-place' mentality in the 1950's, in this case one that stated that women must not only prepare their coffee (along with a full-course breakfast) but that coffee BETTER be to their liking or else they should, for all intents and purposes, live in fear.
Folgers/Maxwell House had no problem promoting such consciousness among the American masses during the 50's when these commercials appeared. Of course, they were not responsible for it; they simply were mirroring the dominant intellectual culture of the time.
Which brings us to today...
I posted a video in a general discussion forums. Topics in that forum range from questions about religion to piss spots on ones jeans (as created by this site's resident neanderthals).
What about other topics posted there?
The problem comes when threads are made about minorities. They follow all the guidelines in title and initial posting. But then virtually all of them regress into something that questions and defames blacks, to prop up what is currently the dark underbelly of modern-day American white male opinion: that blacks are inferior in culture and intellect. This, of course, is poppycock but the mods here do NOTHING about it because in all likelihood, many themselves think the same way. No KKK hoods are evident nor are there any overt slurs (for the most part) but the underlying message that has been promoted since slavery is still there. The mods of course sit back in their recliners, belch and pick their noses with little regard.
So what happens when a white male posts a video about how women were once forced to remain trapped in the bonds of the home and a verbally abusive husband? The mods box the OP because they were insulted by the lead-in comments that simply mirrored EXACTLY what the men of the time were thinking.
Of course, the mod that boxed me cannot even begin to think in those terms.
