Although I was happy about it, I thought there were a few calls that were not right as well.
First - Roughing the passer on Warner during the flea flicker, once he becomes a receiver, he is fair game regardless of his position, similar to a running back carrying out a play action etc.
On another note - Demps is a thug......That was so cheap...
Second - 15 yd. Baltimore punt block, he never even touched his front leg, the punter landed on him. Poor guy had to then go in and play def. end. 84 looked as odd as Klecko running with the ball...

i watched it a few times. the rule is what it is but the way i see it, he's going towards the ground immediately after the catch, it takes a couple of steps for him to get there but he's on his way to the ground after making that catch. he takes steps but those aren't upright steps. he's basically horizontal to the ground right after the catch. since he was on his way to the ground after the catch, he needed to maintain possession after hitting the ground. we may have to just agree to disagree on this one.

I have heard this solution to perceived inadequate officiating before, but how do you have full time referees? As far as I see it the guys out there each week are full time. The only thing that will make the regular NFL refs better is reffing more NFL games. When or where are they going to get this experience? Its not like there are games during the week or a summer league.
It is a very difficult game to officiate because of all the rules and the speed with which it is played. As a player, coach, fan or gambler, you just have to hope the "bad" calls even out over the course of a game.
Not sure. They have NFL Europe, so there's a start.
Don't know how they fix it, but that's the issue. When you have a ref who's an attorney, making $25k a year reffing games, how much time you think they spend sharpening their skills?
I don't exactly shit on $25k, but being the best ref I could be wouldn't be my top priority.

I have no clue what a catch is anymore after watching the call on the Santonio Holmes play. He caught the ball. I watched the play. I saw him catch it. And then ground jarred it loose for a second and he recovered it.
He caught the ball and yet it was ruled incomplete because the ground jarred it loose after he caught it.
I was livid. And that's not the first time I've seen that. I think the referees need to get together and do something. That was absurd. It makes absolutely no sense.

I think "Replay" is a joke..............they slow the play down and put it under a microscope and often times come to some absurd conclusion.............Europeans hafta be laffin' their asses off at how silly football has become with this Replay bullshit........they have soccer and rugby..........two sports that are still REAL and played and officiated by men........and not studio produced and Replay Reviewed like the NFL..........the powers that be in the NFL are beginning to drive away the hardcore fans with these OVERTHOUGHT garbage rules about "what constitutes a catch" and "unneccesary roughness" and prity much treatin' the QB's like they're a girl at her sweet 16 party!!...................my teams in the Super Bowl and I'm just not as happy as I used to get about it.......and I think it's because the NFL is tryin' SO hard to remove all the "wrongs", that their league is no longer "right"...............what channel is Ligue nationale de rugby on?

How about Ravens OT Gaiter being allowed to hold Harrison every play .. Just rewatched the Game(DVR) what a Joke ...
The Steelers drag on the other teams defensive line nearly every play after their beaten. I'd love to have you over for some TIVO in hi-def.
The Ravens were getting held nearly every play when the drama queen qb was scrambling. Arizona will take them out if allowed to. It's going to take some points to beat Arizona. I don't think Pitt can score them.

It was third down and short for the eagles in the 2nd quarter. McNabb ran a play action to westbrook and the DE Smith for Zona tackled Westbrook in the backfield because he thought Westbrook had the ball. McNabb ended up getting sacked and would have been forced to punt but some dumb arse ref called holding on Smith for tackling Westbrook in the backfield.
why this call was horrible.
you can't be called for holding a RB when the QB play fakes to him because the design of the play fake is to dupe the defense into thinking it is a handoff to the RB, hense the reason why he would be tackled. this is especially true if the RB is tackled in the backfield like Westbrook was
the flag came in way late and on the next play McNabb hit Curtis on the slant for 50 yrds and they got a FG out of the drive. the refs either wanted to get the eagles back into the game or they just plain don't know the rules. it is impossible to make a mistake like that

What I dont understand about the Holmes play is this: Clearly he catches the ball.He dives into the endzone and the ground causes the fumble, correct?? Isnt it a TD as soon as that ball broke the plain ??? The fact that the ball came out is irrelevant isnt it??

Instant replay is flawed...........it just doesn't translate to some aspects of football...........take the Santonio Holmes TD catch yesterday for an example.....he caught the ball and took 3 steps and ALSO put his one hand down on the ground short of the endzone BEFORE he landed in the endzone and the ball came out on the ground............they correctly called this a TD, THEN reviewed it, and changed it to an incomplete pass.........so by using instant replay it enabled them to get the call wrong.......isn't that the exact opposite of what instant replay is supposed to do............................JUNK INSTANT REPLAY..........its garbage and the fans hate it!!!!!!
Pretty sure the call on the field was down just short of the goal line, then both coaches were reaching for their flags, but harbaughs hit the field first.

One can make a case that the fix is in because of penalties, and non calls by officials during these playoff games. Not to mention
some of the poor quarterbacking, and coaching decisions.
The NFL will never be considered legit until at least another official is on the field. One position would be opposite the Referee to finally catch more holding calls, and keep the linesmen from embracing each other during every play.

At some point, you're going to have to accept that they'll be bad calls every game. I know it sucks when they go against you, but it's a given that any game you bet on in any sport when have a handful of questionable calls. It's easy to make the call from your couch while watching in slow motion. Not so easy for the ref's when it's in full speed.
Also, the bad calls seemed to balance out yesterday. I'm sure the Ravens and Philly backers are still fired up about the roughing the kicker call against Baltimore (worst call of the afternoon) and the non-call for pass interference when the AZ db fell down and grabbed Curtis at the end of the game.
Do you work for the NFL?
It would be so difficult to setup a referee who reviews every play just like the fans see it on TV. Your right that would be entirely too difficult. Let's just stick with bad calls.
I would hate to be the referee who has to watch the game from a couch in slow motion. What a shitty job that would be. Probably wouldn't even be able to hire somebody for that position.
