At some point, you're going to have to accept that they'll be bad calls every game. I know it sucks when they go against you, but it's a given that any game you bet on in any sport when have a handful of questionable calls. It's easy to make the call from your couch while watching in slow motion. Not so easy for the ref's when it's in full speed.
 
Also, the bad calls seemed to balance out yesterday. I'm sure the Ravens and Philly backers are still fired up about the roughing the kicker call against Baltimore (worst call of the afternoon) and the non-call for pass interference when the AZ db fell down and grabbed Curtis at the end of the game.

Also, I think the call on the out-of-bounds kickoff might have been the right call. Although the ball lander in-bounds, it looked like it hit the Philly player when he was out-of-bounds. Either way, you can't fault the ref on that one.

Completely agree.~ Now although the ref f**ked up the call on whether the ball landed in bounds or not(which is clearly bounced IN bounds), while the philly player was OUT of bounds it looked as though he touched it,  And this was from every angle they had going on.  So while they didn't go about it in the right way, the result was still the same.

and by the way, the ground can cause a fumble.  do you want me to explain that to you although we're getting off track with that.

now, if a receiver catches the ball, is upright, i.e. not going to the ground and take steps and then the ball comes out because he gets hit or otherwise, that's a catch and a fumble.

I dont know the exact rule on this but the way i understood it yesterday was..... kickoff, ball lands in bounds bounces up & hits the Eagles player in the arm (elbow area?) WHILE his foot was out of bounds.  Is that the rule?  The ball touched him while he was out of bounds so that makes it a dead ball on a kickoff?? 

i dont think the refs explained it like that but thats what i thought they meant.

I do agree on alot of the other bad calls though, BAL delay of game against TEN (no call), BAL holding vs PIT (only 1 call all game?),  PIT roth gets late hit in back(no call), BAL running into the kicker (bad call) when kicker landed on top of BAL player - at most should have been 5 yds for contacting the plant foot, PHI curtis held then leg grabbed as he went for catch (no call)

With or without instant replay there will always be bad calls, some just look alot worse than others (and in turn sometimes makes it look like the refs have money on the games - ha)

That was a complete catch dude! No matter which way you look at it. Holmes caught the ball in upright position and then took a couple steps, 2-1/2 or 3 and then was diving. 2nd worse call i saw yesterday.

I keep saying it though: I cant believe nobody has said anything about that kickoff in the Arizona game. Thats a bad call. I think that should be a reviewable play. Clearly the ball was not out of bounds and nobody on Philly touched it and was recovered by Arizona. Thats like saying when a WR catches the ball by the sideline that as soon as a ref calls him in bounds its not reviewable. Vegas payoff...although it still backfired on them cause Arizona won anyway.

blcknd, you're right.  about me being arrogant and if the receiver was upright and remained upright, then it would have been a catch after taking a couple of steps.  but, he started to go down after the catch and didn't maintain possession after hitting the ground.  

so, to review, receiver catches the ball, starts to go to the ground, hits the ground, doesn't maintain possession after hitting the ground = incompletion.  

alternatively, receiver catches the ball, stays upright, does not go to the ground, takes steps, gets tackles, hits the ground, ball comes loose after receiver hits the ground = completion.

I have heard this solution to perceived inadequate officiating before, but how do you have full time referees?  As far as I see it the guys out there each week are full time.  The only thing that will make the regular NFL refs better is reffing more NFL games.  When or where are they going to get this experience?  Its not like there are games during the week or a summer league.

It is a very difficult game to officiate because of all the rules and the speed with which it is played.  As a player, coach, fan or gambler, you just have to hope the "bad" calls even out over the course of a game.

I know all of you die hard gamblers seen the HORRIFIC calls on the field yesterday. Its really beginning to get annoying and makes me wonder if its all a set up. Right off the get go. Santonio Holmes catches a great pass and makes a great catch on about the inch line. What a bad challenge flag by Harbough and what an amazing result he go out of it. I mean seriously, challenging the ruling if it was a catch, come on....B.S. That was a catch and you could even make an argument of it being a TD, but to reverse the call and say it was an incomplete pass is just plain ludacris.
 
These referees need to let these games be decided by the players and not by these fucking jackass calls that they have been calling all year long. I have never seen as bad of calls this year in all my sports watching life. They need to let these athletes play a little and let it be decided by what really matters and thats integrity and heart. Im not saying not to call any penalties at all, but at least make the correct call if you are going to penalize or throw a flag. They are messing with the integrity of the game IMO.
 

Did you watch the games or Just straight up know nothing about football? I bet the Cards and Pitt so I have no bias opinion.

First game, it was ruled that "HE TOUCHED THE BALL WHILE HIS FOOT WAS OUT OF BOUNDS" So therefore by rule, the ball is out of bounds. The Eagles foot was on the line which it was. Therefore the ball is decleared dead on the spot. Right ruling.

Second game, again "RULE IS RECEIVER HAS TO MAINTIAN POSSESION THOROUGHOUT HITTING THE GROUND" Since when is a pass called Complete when he losses possesion as he hits the ground? NEVER!!!

You seriously have no idea about football! Learn the game before you do a post like this.....SERIOUSLY

Bad calls are just part of the game.  It's only unbelievable, horrible, shocking, crap, fixed, influenced, etc. when it goes against your team or your bet.

the part of the equation that makes me believe it was a catch, is that holmes caught the ball, took a few steps, and then reached the ball out towards the endzone in an effort to score. in no way did losing the ball after he hit the ground have anything to do whether he caught the ball or not

winning units, i think you have given a pretty accurate description of how the plays should have happened. my only question was if the ball actually hit him or not.  also the refs did a very poor job of explaining what their actual call was. did they say the ball landed out of bounds, or that it hit the player out of bounds and was therefore out of bounds

You have to wonder if the betting is influencing the penalty calls.
I primarily watch the Steeler games and I constantly see calls which affects scores, Late reversals which affect who covers or not. You have to think its a league wide thing.

I catch a lot of heat is i say anything on this site about officials it is personal for me. I had 1 of the best seasons in 30 years of playing. For anyone not to think a 200 billion dollar a year sports betting business does not have corruption is insane.I hate the nfl commercials about helping the community and all there charities when they are nothing short of wall street frauds  and gangsters. The pittsburg/san diego game earlier this year should open your eyes.You want stop this stuff  send your letters and emails to 60 minutes,frontline on pbs and hell even bill orrilley on fox news.It is very simple they cheat, strick prison terms. or a bullet.

Agreed that it was a legal hit.  McGahee lowers his helmet at the last moment which caused the helmets to come together.  How was Clark, or any other defensive player, going to alter his path at the very last moment?  Just can't happen at the size and speed of these players.

I would say that a majority of the "helmet-to-helmet" hits are caused by the offensive player instinctively ducking his head in self-preservation.  I know player safety is an issue, but the defensive player gets punished far more than he should in these situations.  When a running back lowers his head going into the pile/hole, is that not helmet-to-helmet?  Tough rule to officiate consistently

I agree, the officials were horrible. It only takes one ref to change it and I truly believe they tried to keep it close until they couldnt and the Steelers played it out...

i completely agree with you coronas. unfortunately its a violent game, and they arent ever going to penalize the offensive player. prayers are out there for willis, i hope hes ok. but players have to know that if they lower their heads they are gonna take a serious hit, and potentially dangerous hit

My bad. I meant the punter and no i usually dont pay attention to punters names. Sorry asshole. If you want to be a dick then go post that rude ass shit somewhere else. I made an honest mistake. But regardless, it was an acting job that got that call.

ok dude.......I understand what you're trying to say........you(and obviously the officials) think that Holmes was going to the ground as he caught the ball and that is why it mattered that he did not maintain possesion after hitting the ground

YouTube it though kid...........he CLEARLY catches the ball takes two running steps towards the endzone AND during the SECOND running UPRITE STEP he begins to get tackled on his right leg.

At this point, AFTER TAKING TO STEPS he begins to dive towards the endzone and go down while taking another step as he's going down and THEN Holmes puts his left hand on the ground and crosses into the endzone landing on the ground and ball comes out as he slides on the ground in endzone.

Shoulda bin a TD........he wasn't going down as he caught the ball.......whatever, REPLAY SUCKS!!
