i dont follow gridiron in any way, shape or form,scalabrine...just watching from the sidelines and playing devils advocate here a bit.....but doesnt detroit have a more talented,well-rounded(tho limited offensively to be fair)team than they have had at almost any time in their history??thereby making their losing history a moot point to at least some degree??

is it correct to say that??

i fully understand that often you are wat you believe yourself to be in sports and teams can of course perpetuate a pedigree/identity that has been built over a long established past....but a big infusion of on field talent clearly is a big game-changer,right??...i mean thats primarily wat CREATES the losing history-the talent/or lack thereof that goes out on the field and LOSES....(connected intrinsically with poor management/administration/personnel decision-making etc..)

to me its a bit like writing off the sacramento kings when they were embarking upon the webber/bibby/stojakovic era...former perrenial losers and league door-mats suddenly come good once they have the TALENT to throw out there on the court...anyone fading them on their first few playoff series based on their wretched past would have taken a beating.....strangely enuff history may repeat in the near future with this demarcus cousins-led squad.

i know this post doesnt address all of your points but it is the main one as i see it-the "aura" or "historical spirit" of a team.

or do you not actually see this lions team as being much of an up-grade from years past in terms of pure talent/coaching??

in any case its an interesting game that perhaps looks volatile given sum really awesome respectable guys here loving detroit(amd, suuma, altablock),and other good guys(you,st2ee and beginnerboy) convinced that,at the very least, dallas will no way no how lose the game outright and probably cover.

look forward to your response and sorry if i sound like an ignoramus...dont get these sports without a hoop and a net

Thank you for having a pick instead of sitting on the fence fiddling with your sausage. I hope you stay true to your words and even if you lose not say shi*t like "the bet was with a third party I withdrew before the game".

Having said that, as always most of us will be fading your play.

Where did I say this ALT? I actually implied they were quite dissimilar. Read again. You only have the evidence IN PRINT.

you didnt directly say it. you said since the packers could run on detroit, then why would they be able to stop dallas?

you cant compare a bb getting shot at a brick wall, and a 9mm bullet getting shot at a brick wall.

im sorry, but you are plain out wrong.

    forte: 4.46 40yd dash. 6'2'' 218 lbs

    murray: 4.41 40 yd dash 6'0" 217 lbs

they both catch passes out of the backfield (forte does it alot more)

go watch some highlight films. watch forte play. not near a powerback. not even close

Wait, I haven't read a single post in this thread yet, but have to chime in.  As a life long Dallas Cowboy fan, I am so thankful to play a team in the playoffs that actually takes the focus off of how big of a loserish cross-section of society that Dallas Cowboy fans are.

Because this post MUST be about how Detroit Lions are just a franchise mired in mediocrity (on their good years), right?  I'm serious, I didn't read it yet.

Either way, calling either team a "loser" is probably pretty accurate.

I am going to read it now...........

OK, here is a question to the Forte vs. Murray comparison.

Which of the two RB's have Jay Cuntler and no offensive line, and which have solid QB play, and a solid O-Line, not to mention some real playmakers running routes to take some focus off?   Which one?

Who the F*&&K cares about Forte.  He plays on the Bears.  The Bears suck, who cares how Detroit did vs. the Bears.

OK, as I stated, I am a Dallas fan, but I'm old enough now to not get too worked up if they win or lose.  But Detroit is blah.  What have they really done this year?  Stafford will have success, but will make enough mistakes to keep Dallas in control.

I don't always agree with Scals methods or write ups.  Obviously a lot of it is to garner attention.  Nothing wrong with that really.  I've agreed with some of his pick, disagreed with others, argued with him about this or that.  I don't like how Scal gets uber-defensive after the fact, and perhaps he does make excuses sometimes.  But the bottom line is he puts his thoughts/plays out there and he doesn't run from the results if they aren't in his favor. A lot more than most of the trollio-$hitbags around this place.

    BOL all................

And again, thrilled that the Cowboys are not the "loser" in the conversation for once lately!!

Detroit is the Cleveland of the NFC!!!!

Scal, I don't see Dallas losing here and I've tried discussing it with those on Detroit. History plays a part, and those counting on Dallas to choke can't tell us why (for the love of god) Detroit (the biggest losers in the NFL, as you point out) are ready to win a playoff game. Not to mention, that o-line is fantastic and I think Romo gets time and Murray gets holes tomorrow. I still don't like that number, however. Especially not when I can tease it with almost any 76ers or knicks game (god do I love tanking) and get a guaranteed cover!

IF the Cowboys win and cover, I will be back here on Monday to congratulate you. You know that.

As always, it was a very good read. But I think you were missing a few things when comparing the seasons of both teams and comparing Tony Romo/Matthew Stafford:

    1. The Detroit Lions had injury troubles all season long. Their #1 RB had just 72 carries this season while their #1 WR and probably best WR in the league has been injured for a few games and has obviously been dealing with that injury in terms of lack of form/fitness. Yet they were playing in the "AFC North Title Game".

    2. Tony Romo has a MUCH better o-line than Matthew Stafford and his offense was at complete strength during the whole season when I remember right. He - probably - had the best running game of all teams taking pressure off him. Nevertheless, he posted an interception rate (interceptions/attempts) of 0.1% worse than Matthew Stafford.  With the interception rate of 2.0%, Matthew Stafford is #6 in the league.

    3. You mentioned that Stafford came down from his INTs but had fumbled the ball more often. Well that's most likely a product of having a mediocre o-line and how much pressure you get from the opposite d-line. When talking about fumbles, we have to focus on the whole offense, and look there: The Detroit Lions have an offensive fumble percentage of 1.9%, just 0.1% better than the Cowboys. Want a comparison between both QBs ? Tony Romo fumbled the football six times this season, compared to Stafford's eight, while playing one game less and having 167 pass attempts less to face pressure by the d-line.

Good Morning Scal and welcome home.

Can you get another streak going, your one game win streak ended quicker than i could finish off a bag of popcorn.

Alabama playing following your Jets play ended your 1 game celebration.

I know you can do this Scal.  Discipline and diplomacy has aways been your hallmark to success. The one thing I like about you most is you’re a true decision maker.

When you see a snake you shoot it, you don’t order books on reptiles.  Thats what separates you from the rest, you’re always challenging process and good leaders do challenge process.

Scal, you once told us your crowd doesn’t run that way, I tell you today don't run with crowds, separate yourself and become a real winner, a real leader like your Captain.

I know you can run two wins off in a row, good luck with the first one.

    Your Captain

The real question is which Dallas defense shows up?I personally do not think they have a good one.

You give no credit to the lions d and playing in Green Bay is not the same as playing in Dallas.

Im going to grab the generous touchdown .

    Good luck

If you had a brain you wouldn't be looking for  him to do the work for you box  .I think the guy could be a useful tool  ,if he wasn't being such a tool posting all the fluff .Maybe he would post more than a occasional winner if he put his head to it and stop believing he is entertaining us ,... I read every post on a game for or against the team I like ,so that's why Im here  .Im here to win money not bragging rights or some need to be right with strangers on a forum .

As for the game I think Dallas is the hottest team going into the playoffs .I think Romo is a lot better QB .I think Murry is still one of the top backs in football .Dez Bryant .Ill take every day over Calvin .Dallas defense has done enough to keep there offense and the best offensive line with the most protection in football  in  most games . IMO these two teams put up point son each other ,hence why I like the over 48 also . I don't see how Detroit is going to out score the Cowboys to win .  I  have  Cowboys winning  7-10 points . and over 48 (liking that even more)

I like Dallas for the simple reason that Detroit gives up a lot of points against teams with decent QBs. Throwing the first Det/GB away, the teams with crap QBs..Chi, Minn, TB etc. Yeah Detroit did well. What did NE, GB, NO do to them? I argue that Detroits numbers are inflated. Dallas can score even against good defenses (no game under 10) while detroit struggles (three games they score less then 10) Couple that with a hot Romo and the last time Detroit won a playoff on the road was in 57, this is ano brainer.
