Until ol' man Favre can show me something....ANYTHING, the 49ers D and Vikings one deminsional O should keep this game tight.
 
Also never discount a hungry team that came close to the playoffs last season versus one that got in.

u have a good points but i got vikes as a lock in my picks. favre didnt have to prove anything bc ap is the best rb in the nfl. vikes home opener, welcoming favre, and sf cant throw the ball. is predict a 35-10 victory for the vikes in this game. and have a great season everyone.

AP can't always carry the load.  SF is capable of scoring 3-4 TDs on the Vikes, especially if they balance the load, their secondary is supect. You want to put $ on Old Man RIver, be my guest. I'll take 69'rs -7.  Lucky for me, mine is 7.5

Though the 49ers are 2-0 and playing with fire, the Vikings are in a LOOK-AHEAD ALERT. They're atop the NFC North and battle the Packers next week. This game does not mean that much to them. Meanwhile, this is San Francisco's chance to prove that it belongs among the top teams in the league.

Not very balanced.  Niners are 2-0, & they beat Super Bowl losers on the road.  YET VEGAS STILL HAS THEM AS A 7 PT DOG.

I live in the Bay Area and a huge 49er fan. This is my take from watching them play every week since Singletary took over the coaching position from Nolan. The 49ers play their heart out for Singletary. This is a well coached team that is a reflection of the coach, with a defense that is top 10 in the league. 
 
The 49ers special teams isn't too shabby either. Nedney, the kicker is soild. So is Andy Lee, the punter. Rossum had over 1,200 yds returning the ball last season helping the 49ers with field position. 
 
The biggest issue I have with the 49ers is the O-line and S. Hill the QB. They will have trouble protecting Hill, the Viks D-line is very good and will get to Hill all game long. Hill does not perform well under pressure, believe me, he will get sacked throughout the whole game. The 49ers will have trouble moving the ball, if Gore doesn't pick up yardage to help Hill with short passing plays.
 
I love the 49ers, but I am a Realist. They are out matched in this game.

that "looking ahead" angle is rookie garbage.

Every game is too important.  In fact I'll take the complete opposite.  Vikings want to start 3-0 because they have the Packers coming up and want to bank this game in case they drop the Packer game.

I couldn't agree more with backdoorslam about this game reminding him about the Panthers @ Minny game last year.  I totally agree and no one else is bringing this up.  Backdoor you remember how crazy the dome was that day and that was when Minny was 0-2.  How do you think that atmosphere is going be Sunday, they should be going nuts.  I think Minny is one of the toughest places to play and the Minny homefield advantage may be a little underated in the eyes of the public.  Minny is the play

LOOK @ THE STATS AND WATCH THE GAMES, VIQUEENZ DEFENSE SUX AGAINST THE RUNNING GAME...FAVRE WILL THROW AT LEAST 2 PICKS AGAINST MY NINERZ AND PETERSON WILL HAVE A TOUGH DAY, HES ONE OF THE GREATEST DONT GET ME WRONG BUT OUR DEFENSE WILL B ALL OVER HIM. MAYBE IF CRIS CARTER CAME OUT OF RETIREMENT AND RANDY MOSS CAME BACK FOR A GAME SO MINNY WOULD HAVE A CHANCE...NINERZ WILL WIN 23-7!

Agreed.  Dont know how many points niners will score - Hill takes too many sacks.  Too many 2nd and long, 3rd and long, 3 and outs. 

the line is -7 cuz Minny is one of the top publicly bet teams (AP and Favre love), and their backers will take them at a higher price.  On that note the bookmakers wanna deter some of that action and even it out, so they give a 2-0 team 7. 

i dont like this setup at all.  Niners D could keep it close, but i dont think their O scores more than 13-16.  Minny wins 23-16, 21-13, 24-10, 17-9, somewhere in that range.  no play for me.

If you were Brett Favre, would you be thinking of the Packers as you were preparing for the 49ers for your home opener? There's only 1 correct answer for that question.

I was at the Vikings/Browns game and the play calling has been vanilla for the Vikings. Favre has thrown and made plays when he's needed to but the team has been conservative with him by not asking him to carry the team....he obviously doesn't have to. So...3 int's? Not this weekend. Maybe next week.

Someone brought up Minny's run D sucking this year.  I'm aware of their performance against DET and CLE.  I believe their run D will step it up big in this spot at home, my point is that even if they don't they will still contain SF. 

Minny doesn't have to have the best run D in the league in week 3, they just have to be better than Seattle & Arizona.  Actually you can't even say Arizona because they shut down the San Fran run.  I live in Seattle and am a Seahawks fan and know that Gore has Seattle's number from time to time, but then is for the most part forgettable for long periods of time.  No matter what you think about Minny run D.  I think we can all agree they are much stronger on the interior D-line than Seattle.  Lastly don't forget Seahawks were without two starting LB's last week behind an already week front four.

I've said on other posts this is probably one of the hardest ones to pick for me just because I love how SF are playing and Singletary has got them confident, but Minn is the better team IMO.  Not to mention, Vikes home opener here so they should be ready to rock for the fans.

That said, you also have Favre with the Pack game looming and they could be looking at that game, who knows.

Just wanted to say great points raised by both sides in this discussion and this is the type of thread I like to see.  My initial lean was SF but the more I think about it, the more I think I'm taking the Vikes.  Waiting til closer to game time to decide.

Both teams have solid defenses. Gore is a beast, AP is running towards greatness. The run D will be the focus for the Viks as well as the 49ers. Which leaves the game more on the shoulders of the QBs. Favre is an old dude but I would put my money on him any game over S. Hill.

In my opinion the game will be decided on who will have control of the clock with the least number of penalties. The dome will be louder than a porn set on a Sunday afternoon with Favre's first game at home, this does not fair well for my beloved 49ers team.

San Francisco can control the clock. Minnesota's run def = 118/gm. AVERAGE.

Miami controlled the clock too,  Look what happened 

Did you know that was an NFL record for least amount of the time with the ball and you win.  NBC said it was 32 years.  But it was damn long time none the less.

This is MIN first home game, lets remember.  Thats a rookie QB going against Favre who can throw the ball if he needs to.  He's been savin up for three weeks.

There is a reason this line is -7.  SF keeps it close but MIN gets them along the lines of 23-9.
