none of the teams that made the playoffs this year can be called great ...period....there are NO great teams in the league this year....the Pats of the last few years arguably were great and that might be a strecth......a great team was the Aikman/Irving/Smith J Johnosn led cowboys who smashed people in their uper Bowl victories
 
to say Pittsburgh is a great team is laughable....

BTW - although I agree Philly's D never showed today, once they settled down how did Arizona all powerful offense do in the 2nd half? 104 yards and 8 points sound about right?

I've also bet on two road earlier in the playoffs in mismatches and cashed in both times. No matter how you cap a game you'll never fall on the right side everytime.

oh and do I see mismatches? Here's one for you to ponder: the big physical bullrushing desensive front of the Steelers against this Cardinals offensive line. Think about that one, in addition to looking at how the Steelers have lost their games this season and how it is not against defenses like Arizona's.

And I would have called Randy Moss and Wes Welker great in last years Superbowl but how did that work out when a great defensive front got pressure on the QB and he couldn't get the ball to them?

For the record - the Steelers defensive front and secondary and better than the Giants and the Cards o-line is much weaker than the Pats.

i think this game all comes squarely down on the shoulders of Todd Haley's offensive scheme and then playing calling rhythm, which he proved in the third quarter against philly is something he can't entirely command.

that said, it seems unlikely that the steelers will completely shut down fitzgerald and boldin. it'll be like facing two andre johnsons.

i'm curious to see if haley won't scheme to go through boldin (which would greatly diminish the impact of the d-line of pitt due to rapid fire short yardage plays on the wings)...and if so, how do the steelers react? no matter what, it will come to the playing calling rhythm for arizona to succeed. offensively that's less meaningful to pittsburgh since they don't get emotional if they don't move the ball - they'll just grind it out and count on their defense.

probably one of the best posts in this thread...preciscely...Pittaint blowing anybody out...if they win it will be in a grind it out fashion....taking the plus seven points is the correct play here

What did you guys have the line capped at before the number came out?  I think Pitt -7 and 47 are spot on.  They are actually the exact numbers I came up with.  Don't see any investing oppurtunity on the side or the total. 

My opinion is that good defense will trump good offense.  But I don't bet my opinions!

sure - but in the last regular season game for the steelers this year, against a similar make receiver (andre johnson) they gave up 10 receptions for 112 yards (granted no td's). but here they face two andre johnsons.

my bad - had the weeks in ascending order on my sheet - nevertheless, in spite of that performance being the 1st week of the season, it makes me think that massive and fleet ball grabbing freaks of nature are nothing to dismiss so easily.

i just think it's a tough test for any secondary to face two receivers of this nature and to simply shrug it off to no alleged affect is rather naive. they would have to act and react perfectly for all four quarters, and we're all just gonna say "that's simply going to happen" AND "here's seven points," because their defense is ranked first? in spite of the fact that they play the bengals and browns 23% of the time? i'm just not convinced yet.

Pitt dominated today and barely won, they were only up 2 in a game where they totally outplayed the Ravens.  Ravens do not finish drives. Arizona wins outright.

IMO I think the Cards got away with a few pass interfernce calls today and Delhome handed the cards D 5 pics. The Eagles lit the cards secondary up in the second half. There an average D with alot of energy.But I think the the real disrespect is on the Steelers. They had a ridiculous schedule this year and there D is ranked # 1 after all there tough games. -6.5 is a joke the Steelers should be favored by at least -8.5     Here is just a few on there schedule at Philly,at Jacksonville,at Redskins, at Patriots,at Baltimore,at Titans, and home vs Baltimore,  Indy, San Diego,Giants, and Dallas.They went 7-4 through those 11 games.What would Cards record be after that schedule?  I dont think I even need to point out who the cards beat ,other then the playoff teams nobody. So the disrespect is to the steelers.

Anyways, I keep hearing all this crap about how Pitts offense isn't good but yet you idiots on AZ probably don't even know the half of it.  I remember that AZ team getting hammered by the Jets, Vikings, and Pats!
 
1. Pittsburgh played the toughest schedule in football i.e. Titans, Ravens x 3, Eagles, Pats, G-men, Redskins, Chargers, Colts, Cowboys.  These are all good defensive teams so their offensive numbers are going to be skewed but yet we managed a reasonable effort against all!  W Parker was out most of the year and he is back!
 
2.  AZ's defense did give a lot of yardage to the Eagles today and the same will happen agaisnt the Steelers except they're going to have to deal w/ a running game!
 
3.  K Warner is turnover and injury prone as is Big Ben...the difference here lies with the defenses and back-up QB's...
 
I'll take the Steelers D over Az's D and Leftwich over Leinart!
