Very true, shaq got finals MVP each of those 3 years.   Plus let's not forget Kobe having a 3-1 lead in a series then blowing it to the suns. One of 9 teams to blow a 3-1 lead in history.

during kobe/shaq 3peat, kobe's playoff numbers avg:

27pts/6rbs/5assists, on 53% TS.... if you don't know what TS is.. ask and i'll explain.

game 7 WCF... port vs lakers....portland up 20...shaq can't get anything going.. kobe takes over, finishing with 25pts/11rbs/8assists/4blocks.

Plus people exaggerate how good Kobe was in the clutch due to his highlights always on espn. If you go on websites that track that data like 82games.com, Kobe wasn't that great in the clutch. In fact, he wasn't that clutch and often took bad shots with the game on the line.

...and somehow people want to say kobe was a role player during those 3 title runs,...

You'd literally have to factor all of the games (rosters included) to come out with some sort of statistical comparison vs competition.

Who got MVP in those 3 titles? Shaq... Who was the one being double teamed .. Shaq.  They were mostly doing single coverage on Kobe the whole time, old man pippen and Ruben Patterson in those blazer years.

well.. im not your casual fan... lbj is an all time great.. so is kobe. LBJ certainly can surpass kobe once its all said and done, but we have to wait and see...  all of a sudden its an accomplishment to just make the finals for lebron.. how amazing... there's a reason he is 2/5... the west is better.. now i will give you that his first title appearance.. he had a terrible team..but thats how bad the east was... spurs smoked them.. and if phx had made it instead.. the result would be the same.. west was just way better.

kobe does have 5 rings.. but its not just about the rings.. kobe put up great numbers during those runs, and playoff appearance... all kobe haters care about is that he didnt win Finals MVP... go look at the numbers.. he played great, and came up big for the team numerous times when shaq was pulled late in games because of hack a shaq...

to say they aren't comparable is ignorant..

its not just about finals mvp... shaq was pulled numerous times late in games.  and you are talking about old man portland... look at the defence now.. you can't even breathe on players... harden gets 15 fts per game in the playoffs... what a joke..

2011 NBA finals... lebron's second go at the finals..

17pts, 7rbs, 6 assists... 42% shooting.  Avg's 1pt per game in the 4th quarter of the series...

wade... 27/7/5.. on 55% shooting... all LBJ had to do was play at an average level and miami wins...  somehow this is shoved under the rug... now its a big woo hoo.. if cle makes the finals, amazing season, but lose, so what, west is stacked...

He is unquestionably behind Russel, and most have him behind Wilt as well. He is in the conversation, but MANY top rankings do not have him in the top 5.

Kobe in his prime was lethal and made the hardest shots. Lebron is a physical beast. He has mismatches everywhere on the court. Not taking anything away from him but it is quite different. Lebron would be different playing on the west. Since west is more competitive he would have to grind the whole season. He's cruising to the playoffs for the past 5 years. No way is he better than Kobe was in his prime but he has a good chance to over take him.
