Council of Nicea in 325 AD  Jesus was proclaimed Holy and part of the Holy Trinity and not a man who had arisen to the divine.

The bible is a political tome rewritten by numerous victors. Word of God is the word of men who rewrote the bible to fit their philosophys.

God said to Abraham kill me a son

Abe said you must be putting me on

God said NO, Abe said But.

God said you can do what you want to But

the next time you see me coming you better run.

So Abe headed into the setting Sun

and set it all up on highway 61.

When i get on a plane, I have perceived probability of it being safe.  Do I know the plane wont crash?  No.  But I am an educated person, and can make assumptions about safety based on history - and accept that my desire to get somewhere fast and far is greater than the probability of a plane crash.  Some choose differently, but it has nothing to do with faith.

Every decision we make in life has risk.  We are constantly evaluating that risk based on what we know.  Should I go outside today?  Should I eat McDonalds again?  I dont go and eat a big mac and then say "I have faith that even though I eat a big mac every day, I am never going to have a health problem".  That is stupid.  That person would be a fool, blindly going on faith rather than what he knows about big macs and health consequences - sound familiar?

    Jeesh.

    Dear oh dear....

If you only realised that you are agreeing with me.

The difference is, you are applying a mathematical term to the choices you are making, ie, the probaility (chance) of the plane crashing, car crashing etc etc

I am as well, however, i am using a philosophical  term (faith), to describe the exact same thing.

    You are really something !

faith has to do with religion.. stop trying to find ways to use it on everyday situations.. so that you can say its the same but with a god..

Me something? Are you really stupid or are you just acting it?

"Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence"

As you board the plane...Can you guarantee 100% that the ground crew,  mechanics and flight engineers have all donte there jobs correctly? Do you go and observe each flight mechanic do there job properly? No you dont......therefore based on your definition, you have no material evidence they did there job properly......Therefore you are assuming they did there job correctly, if you didnt, would you hop on the plane? I dont think you would....

If you are assuming therefore you DONT have material evidence and therefore wether you like it or not, you have faith that the mechanics did there jobs properly...

Yes, you may look at the history of the airliner, etc etc etc, yes, just as i look at the signposts for Gods existence...

Neither of us have 100% material evidence in these cases, but based on the signposts, we both have faith.....I dont care what you say, YOU HAVE FAITH.

    Just answer this question.......

When you go to a resteraunt for the first time....

Can you confirm 100% guarantee that the chef isnt going to poison you? Just answer yes or no........Can you guarantee it?

No you cant, so are yiou still gonna enter the resteraunt and eat? OR when you enter the resteraunt, are you gonna ask to watch the chef cook your food?

I cant believe you are posting a definition of faith and go on to contradict it...

    Many Books, One Message

The Bible may look like one book, but it is actually sixty-six rolled into one. Thirty-nine books make up what we call the Old Testament, and twenty-seven make up the New Testament. God uses many authors-as many as forty-over a time-period of many centuries to write the sixty-six books of the Bible. This makes each book unique. But even though each book has its own style and character, each one contributes to God's life changing message. What is that message? Through the Bible, God makes it clear that he loves us and has a plan to save us from the destructive power of sin.

    Praise the Lord Almighty!!

So why the f### do plane crashes occur? Why? According to you, because they are trained etc etc, there shouldnt be plane crashes....So why do they happen?

90% of the time is due to mechanical faults and pilot error (insufficient training).

As we have stated, God judges everyone RIGHTLY. If a childs parents teaches a boy to steal, then if that boy dies before he grows older, God will judge rightly......

If the boy grows to a mature person and KNOWS the difference between right and wrong, then i am sure God will judge rightly if he continues to steal.....God knows what is in our minds and hearts, that is why he is the only one that should judge.

Dont even try and go inside the mind of God...You honestly want to go inside the mind of a being that created the universe? The universe is not comprehendable and you want to try and understand the mind of God?

All you need to know is that God loves you and just follow the rules he states in the bible...Thats all it is...

    God's Message

The Bible is the most powerful book ever written. Countless lives have been changed by it. Numerous authorities have tried to ban it. Some godless people have burned it. And many Christians have died to preserve it. Why had this book had such a huge impact on people? Because this book, the Bible, is the very word of God. It came from God himself--he is the author. Over hundreds of years, he chose certain individuals to write down exactly what he wanted to tell humankind. This process is called "inspiration." One of Jesus' closest followers, Peter, wrote, "Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet's own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God" (2 Peter 1:20-21.

Although these authors wrote in Hebrew or Greek, their words have been carefully translated into many languages. So today we can read God's message in our own language---modern English.

How do you know a policeman with a gun is not going to shoot you ?

How do you know if the dentist while in a procedure is not going to put some cyanide in your mouth ?

How do you know if somebody at the air force during their training is not going to go all kamikaze and crash his plane during his flight ?

    Because its faiiiiiiiith people..

Do you see the pattern in there ?

How do you know a policeman with a gun is not going to shoot you ?

How do you know if the dentist while in a procedure is not going to put some cyanide in your mouth ?

How do you know if somebody at the air force during their training is not going to go all kamikaze and crash his plane during his flight ?

    Because its faiiiiiiiith people..

Do you see the pattern in there ?

    Stupidity

There are a lot of things in these world that machines produce, where no human intervention is required..

So in that case I should have faith in the machine ?

By your very definition YOU POSTED,

"Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence"

When you go to a resteraunt to eat.......Can you give me 100% material evidence that the chef isnt going to poison you? yes or No? Just answer the question, i just want a yes or a no....When you are sitting at your table waiting after you ordered, can you give yourself 100% evidence that the chef in the kitchen doesnt put some rat poison in your soup? YES or NO?

HOLY SHIT! I just had an epiphany. Vanzack, System, bbwit... Rostos defines probability as faith and faith as probability. He looks at them both the same. That renders ANY ARGUMENT WE CAN EVER MAKE USELESS because he will treat any probability argument as a faith argument.

Let's try this: Here's why faith and probability are not the same. You calculate probability mathematically. What are the odds of X occurring? In other words, how many times would I have to get on a plane before it becomes a near certainty that it would crash? To do this you look to the amount of flights in history and the amount of those flights that crash. You get a number. How do you calculate faith?

IT'S BOLDED SO YOU DON'T DODGE THE QUESTION LIKE YOU AND SIRJOHNDRAKE LOVE TO DO.

I find it interesting how he has to make up meanings for words in order to justify his comments. I think from this point forward, I'm gonna define "pray" and "ask" as the same. Therefore, whenever I ask someone a question, I'm actually praying to them for an answer. So whenever I get an answer, my prayers have been answered.

Better yet, I'm gonna go to the supermarket and ask for an apple or orange. They'll say to me, "well which one is it?" I'll respond "I decided that an apple and an orange are no different because I said so. So from now one, when someone asks for an apple, you can give them an orange and it'll be just fine." Right Rostos? This is perfectly acceptable logic by your standards.

And by the way, why is god such an asshole? Why are there EVER plane crashes? Why kill so many innocent people? I thought "Thou shalt not kill"... or does that not apply to god? Quite the hypocrite if you ask me. I think there are more contradictions in the bible and relating to god than there are posts in the covers forum daily. How many does vanzack have to post before you realize how ridiculous you sound?
