You BELIEVE that only way to know something is through the Law of Nature.  (You actually just think you believe in only this, when actually you believe in the Law of Nature and Faith as a means of knowing.)

I BELIEVE that there are 3 ways of knowing.  Law of Nature, Faith/Logic/Reason, Revelation from God.

hoodwink, a children's bible?  that makes sense.

although i'm not sure i'd call it faith when children believe in this stuff.  i have my kids believeing in all sorts of stuff- santa claus, the easter bunny, tooth fairy, leprachauns, humbugs, the elf that works for santa claus and some other stuff.  and they go (or recently went) to some christian preschool so they've had the idea of the christian god beaten into their brains as well.  it doesn't seem like faith as much as a lack of intellectual development adn sophistication (not to be offensive, but kids obviously aren't as far along as adults and are more susceptible to believing in this kind of stuff).

sims, you're equating logic with science.  they aren't the same.  Kk also referenced math which is obviously a nother category as well.

logic and science are different.  one can see in a petri dish or calculator and one you can't.

math and science are in the same category of epistemology to me, the Law of Nature.

The real cost of religious faith. If this doesn't say it all, I don't know what does...

I cannot accept that reliance on science, logic, and reason are equivalent to "belief" just as one believes in god. My "beliefs" are all founded upon tangible things; that which we can see, touch, etc. The theists' beliefs are all based on the supernatural; that which could never be seen/touched, etc., unless that being himself took it upon himself to reveal the truth.

Key difference summed up: i base my thoughts on what could be theoretically proven by my actions; by actions of people
the theist bases his beliefs on what could only be proven by someone else, by the supreme being.

AN atheist THINKS nothing happens after you die because that's the natural, logical conclusion one reaches. You were nothing before you were born. You were born. You lived. You will again be nothing after you die. If I die and I am proven wrong, well then so be it, but logic cannot possibly lead to any other conclusion while I am alive.

I do not have faith in anything. I think and I do math. Big difference.

I like this Katz seems just about right. Obviously there is some thought put into Christianity and whether you being completely fooled but yes almost most is belief.

Matt Dillahunty is the president of the Atheist Community of Austin, and is also a host of the live internet radio show "Non-Prophets Radio" and of the Austin tv access show "The Atheist Experience". Matt was raised as a fundamentalist Baptist Christian, and sought to become a Baptist minister.[1] His religious studies, instead of bolstering his faith as he intended, led to a complete rejection of Christianity. He now continues to study philosophy, religion, science, and history, while attempting to educate people about atheism and religion, and "to prevent others from wasting another day on irrational beliefs".[2] Dillahunty also served in the armed forces during the Gulf War and was also in the Armed forces in Haiti during the early 1990s.

different context rostos, you know that.  i doubt KK is using his

belief that there is other life in the universe to establish any moral

standards for himself or worse, for others.  KK never said he

didn't believe in something that wasn't based on facts. atheists,

as you may call them, can believe all sorts of shit but they don't

necessarily modify their behavior as a result.

i suspect you're taking his use of the word everything too literally.

the word faith has a few denotations.  everyone has faith in

some things.  faith in the religious context is more significant

because it affects behavior, laws, etc.

but if he got on here and said you are stupid for not believing

in alien life or you need to do this or that because there is alien life without any supporting facts,

then you could use the same arguments he is using against him

i doubt he'd do that though.

    yes, i'm married.

    Why doesnt god heal amputees?

We pray for sick people.  Like if you have cancer, we pray for you to get better.

When that cancer patient gets better, we say it was god.

Why cant we pray for amputees, and why doesnt god help them?  Does he hate them?
