In CA you are SOL w/ a Dui, will cost you about $10K, they say DUI, You can't afford it.

Gotta get a lawyer.  Looks good in court.  I got a DUI when I was 16.  Luckily, I was a minor so it is no longer on my record.  I went into an ADR program or some shit.  Basically, a probationary period for a year, and if I didn't get in any trouble, it would get erased from my record which it did.  It will cost you out the asshole and youll do a lot of community service.  Just learn from it and move on as best as you can.  The laws for it get stricter with each passing day.  Fucking lobbyist.  .08 is ridiculous.  And, many people drink 6 packs casually.  Good luck.

I got a DUi when I was in college out in Colorado - i had a pretty high limit (.19), but I'm 6'3 230 - I was definitely drunk and should not have been behind the wheel ( I actually was not out driving, just quickly gave my buddy a ride to his car in town)
 
BUT I was not to the point where I couldn't see straight or any shit, I remember all of it. Plent of people get dui's and are not blinded drunk...I made a mistake and shouldn;t have been driving, but I wasn't going to hurt anyone
 
 
I did get a lawyer - in retrospect it was useless - he didn't do anything I couldn't have done - maybe it's different elsewhere, but in a college town (boulder), we lined up and took our punishment - no liscense for months, shitload of fines (my god I pissed away so much money in fines) - community service at 6 in the am on Saturdays for months....
 
it sucks, but at least you didn't kill anyone - just don't do it again

i think youre a idiot that revenge is talking about and dislikes the most, you almost blew a .20, twice that stupid .08 limit! then the idiot excuses, "just quickly gave him a ride" and "i wasnt blinded drunk", so you dont think its a big deal, if you dont see how fucked up your reasoning is on this, its sad.  i hope the threat of fines or losing your license is enough to keep your drunk ass off the road since driving at a little .20 really isnt such a big deal.

I have not read all the entries in this thread, but I had the same thing happen to me right before I turned 20.
 
Now, I am about to turn 31, so I don't know if the laws have changed or not, but get an attorney.
 
I was alone, apparently side swiped someone on the freeway, and flipped my car over...they say....a couple of good times.  I ended up in the passanger seat.
 
I had to go through complete hell.  A shit load of classes, community service, it cost me a shit load of money when all was said and done.
 
Listen to what your attorney says.  It will cost you for one, but it will keep you out of jail.

Pay your fine, do your time, learn the lesson.  When I was 19  I drove across Washington, D.C., drunk, could not keep my eyes open.  Luckily I made it home safe.  I learned from that, have never driven with over one drink in me.  Good luck (we all make stupid mistakes at one time or another).

It seems bad now but it will pass.  You will learn a valuable lesson and it might cost you some.  The important thing is that you learn that taxis are way more affordable than DUIs.  They won't throw the book at you for your first offense.  Don't hang your head my man, most of us have been there

yea its terrible when you lose a loved one to a drunken accident by some idiot that is fall down drunk...but hey man shit happens.
 
i just think people overlook some of the other victims involved with these fucked up laws.

uh, neverlooz, in some counties there is a huge fine, and especially since this asshole is under age, a loss of the license, dui schools and shit like that, and then his insurance is gonna go way up, if he can get it, it will be about 3X what it is now.

Sadly I have to agree with ragingstorm and revengeissweet here, although I empathesize with the kid. With all the headlines and programs to discourage this type of incidences and yet it continues. I can't say I feel sorry for the kid.

if you know a lawyer or your town is large enough, you can usually get a free consultation or pay $50 for advice ..
 
become a straight arrow on this and just be glad this didn't occur in OL Virginia where the minimum fine is now $2500-3000 for a first offense ..

Not saying that the kid should go to prison for 20 years- he's lucky that it didn't get to that point- but there's no reason to be lenient on the kid because it's his first offense, or because one thinks that the drunk driving laws are too harsh.  F that s.

No shit grasking, and when the county needs money they just put a cop or two in that parking lot. a7a8a9a1, It sounds like you will soon be a cash cow for the state of California. Thank God nobody else was involved or you would be in a lot more trouble and not just "frustrated" that you can't drive. Difficult lesson for a lot of degenerates to learn but considering you don't even REMEMBER the night you might take it is a last warning from beyond to slow things down and take taxis. What was the breath/ blood alcohol level for you? It could affect your sentence.

Everything and possible short jail time.

First off find an attorney who specializes in DWI cases. It will cost you more but it will definitely help.
