if you guys really beleive that DUI is this fucking bad of a crime then you need to lobby for tougher laws (ie. Norway, Sweeden, Finland).....
 
YOU DONT WANT TO GET CAUGHT THERE.
 
But nevertheless, Americans don't push it b/c we don't want that shit to happen to us if we have one to many any get yanked. Besides this is America, if we cracked down on DUI laws restaurants and bars would get crushed, and no one wants that to happen.

And stop ripping this kid.  He came here for advice, not a sermon.  He's 20.  He made a mistake.  This may have been the best thing to happen to him.  Hopefully he learns from this.
 
a7a8a9a1, you should at least consult with a lawyer.  He'll know the state DUI laws better than most of us on this board.

Back when I had one (1997) and only one, when I bailed myself out of holding cell next morning, I had to go to court.  I had my license suspended for one year...got restricted license where I could drive to and from work and to and from school...got to pick the date to serve my 48 hours in county jail (I picked Monday/Tuesday)..had to take DUI class for 8 hours...no community service...all in all it probably cost around grand, but taught me lesson...good luck dude

depends on your state really, more than likely a first offense with an attorney will get you a fine, a certain amount of hours in alcohol class (on your dime) and probation

SO HERE IS THE UPDATE:
 
Court was on Friday, I was there for 6 hours.
 
My BAC was .25%. I pleaded guilty.
 
1 year of suspended license (retroactive to the 9-27-07)
 
$1890 of fines
 
36 AA meetings
 
1 MADD meeting
 
9 month program
 
112 hours of community service.
 
I'm glad I finally know what my punishment is because now I can move forward and start fixing things. I'm honestly looking forward to the "problem fixing" stage. By taking care of everything on time, by the middle of January the only thing left would be going to the 9 month program.
Guess I wont be driving to Spring Training this season or Vegas for my 21st but oh well, one of the many things I've learned this month is that stupid decisions with time will catch up to you.

Holy shit dude.  I would have asked the judge to exchange all of that BS for 30 days incarceration.  Seriously.  That sucks.

You should have been given 7 days in JAIL too. Maybe that would deter from ever drinking and driving again. All that other shit would be simple compared to 7 days in JAIL. Fuck all of you who say he made a mistake...He's young...But if he had killed your love ones then what and dont say "BUT HE DIDN'T" its inexcusable and one DUI usually leads to many more not just A MISTAKE ! FU.

you dont have breathalizers everyday or atleast random ones??? I got an MIP at the michigan state / indiana game and i have random breathalizers where i gotta call every morning for the next 3 monthes

So you didnt post a list of female co-workers you wanted to murder on the internet then have one of the girl's fathers ask the police to investigate?  Thats weird of you to make a thread saying you did then... must have just been looking for attention.

I've never had a run in with the police

I've also been working at a private company for near 15 months as well and I don't work with anyone....talk to people on the phone but that's about it
