"In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happened, you can bet it was planned that way."
    ~ President Franklin D. Roosevelt

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a FAKE QUOTE. According to Wikiquote:

There are no records of Roosevelt having made such a statement, and this is most likely a misquotation of the widely reported comment he made in a speech at the Citadel (23 October 1935):

Yes. we are on the way back — not by mere chance, not by a turn of the cycle. We are coming back more soundly than ever before because we planned it that way, and don't let anybody tell you differently.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Even that is a corruption, as the original is "we are planning it that way".

Yes, we are on our way back— not just by pure chance, my friends, not just by a turn of the wheel, of the cycle. We are coming back more soundly than ever before because we are planning it that way. Don't let anybody tell you differently.

Additional research by Loren Collins tracks the origin down to a 1971 book Non Dare Call it Conspiracy.

    https://www.lorencollins.net/blog/?p=39

It seem like the original quote from the speech (about the economic recovery) was frequently shortened for several decades into the 50's and 60's to "we planned it that way", and often used against FDR. Indeed Frank Knox, who ran against FDR as Vice Presidential candidate, used the phrase "We planned it that way" as the ironic title of a 1938 pamphlet attaching FDR.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Which attempts to link FDR's New Deal to communism, which of course was the major source of conspiracy theories later in the 1950, and hence probably explains how the quote ended up eventually corrupted and inserted in the conspiracy quote canon.

So that phrase "we planned it that way" was famously associated with FDR.

But the claimed quote that "In politics, nothing happens by accident" is a gross corruption. In fact FDR was making the opposite point by pointing out how unusual it was for something to go well as the result of a plan. He really saying "look at me! I planned something and it worked! Amazing!"

Any talk of how the structures should have fallen or not fallen is mere speculation imo.

Since there is nothing remotely close to compare too how they fell, there is no surefire explaination of how they should of. Ergo, speculation imo

The entire admin was obsessed with Saddam H.They were going into Iraq regardless. I know they make money off wars. It's why they have wars. There was no attack on US citizens by the US government prior to any of the recent wars.

That's exactly how I feel. I don't know what to believe. Every time I see a 911 patriotic believer I shake my head at the ignorance. Then I see a 911 truther and I shake my head and rub my eyes. I guess i'm a centrist on this issue because I know my government capable of fucked up shit and I really don't want to believe my government killed our citizens for money. I don't want to believe it but that doesn't mean they didn't.

The funny thing about conspiracies is everyone has to be all in until they die.  Piss someone off and they squeal (For goodness sake, the Saints couldn't even keep a secret from the NFL Commish). Watergate.....outing CIA operatives.

The government can't even keep secret the most simple operations yet you give them credit for pulling off the biggest caper ever.  That is damn funny.

I have already explained the "2.3 trillion issue."  This video is a complete joke.  I honestly am blown away that you are married to an attorney.  I'm also surprised that you are not sleeping in a tent in the yard because attorneys generally give large credence to evidence.

I have to admit it is hilarious.  The conspiracy theorists are largely composed of righties......who voted Bush into office.....TWICE.....the very same person who was the architect of 9/11.  And they will vote for Romney later this year.

One never speaks of this assassination without making reckless judgements. The absurdity of the accusations, the total lack of evidence, nothing stops them. One must read everything with distrust.

    Voltaire,

speaking about the incredible stories and conspiracy theories surrounding the assassination of King Henri 1V of France.

People , trying to make some sense out of events that are not to their liking, find that a conspiracy theory, they can easily understand or adopt, and which fits a bias of theirs, often explains things very well.

In his book The Paranoid Style in American Politics and Other Essays, Richard Hofstadter writes that

"the typical procedure of the higher paranoid scholarship is to start with defensible assumptions."

He goes on to say, in an observation tailor-made for the conspiracy theorists , that "the paranoid mentality is far more coherent than the real world, since it leaves no room for mistakes, failures or ambiguities ... It believes it is up against an enemy who is as infallibly rational as he is totally evil, and it seeks to match his imputed total competence with its own, leaving nothing unexplained and comprehending all of reality in one overreaching, consistent theory."

Hofstadter says the "qualities" of the paranoid style are "heated exaggeration, suspiciousness, and conspiratorial fantasy," and a "heroic striving for 'evidence' to prove that the unbeliev able is the only thing that can be believed."

    Author Mark Fenster

feels that one reason for the success of major conspiracy theories is that

they tell a "gripping, dramatic story ... The conspiracy narrative is compelling in its ... focus on the actions of the perpetrators of the evil conspiracy and [on] the defender of the moral order."

For conspiracy theorists, all discrepancies, contradictions, anomalies, et cetera, are suspicious, and are the heart and soul of the conspiracy movement. In their universe, everything proceeds perfectly and there is no such thing as human error, incompetence, coincidence, or failure of memory. There are no innocent, benign explanations for anything.

A substantial majority of the conspiracy community is also extremely gullible, believing every story they hear without bothering to check it to see if it is accurate or makes any sense. As long as the story helps their theory, they buy it. They would improve the quality of their research appreciably by simply embracing rule number one of the journalistic profession: "If your mama says she loves you, check it out."

"Or we'll say, "What a coincidence," or "What are the odds of this happening?" But in the world of conspiracy theorists, happenstance and coincidences don't exist. What appears to be a random coincidence is really always complicity. Indeed, perhaps the only coincidence they wiII acknowledge is that the words coincidence and complicity each start with the letter C and each has four syllables.
