So they have a higher SOS ranking because they play weaker teams ?  I do not follow this reasoning one bit.  Perhaps we need to review what SOS means and how it is determined.

For the record I also think that Ok St is more deserving if they beat OU than Bama. And I also do not think that BAMA deserves another shot.  And yes I also think that Bama is a great team and probably the 2nd best in the country.

But when you go strictly on the quality of not only their loses BUT ALSO THEIR WINS than their resume is NOT representative of the 2nd best team in the country. SEC or not their resume does not support this.

However, in the end it probably will not matter because it is likely that OU will beat OSU anyway making this whole discussion pointless.

Yes they have a stout defense but the level of competition they have played is absolutely dismal and disgusting!

Why don't we do the same list for the defenses that Oklahoma St. has faced

    Louisiana-Lafayette - 72nd

    Arizona - 111th

    Tulsa - 90th

    Texas A&M - 66th

    Kansas - 120 out of 120

The SEC is having a down year except for the top teams, but it still can compete with any conference in the nation. Don't be like these hardcore SEC fans who are never wrong and talk out of their ass, give the SEC their due there is a reason they haven't lost in a while in the championship game. This year the Big 12 is probably better from top to bottom but arguing with some people is just like talking to a brick wall, you can talk but there isn't anything listening. Just let it go man, one of these idiots thought the SEC had 3 of the top 10 qbs in the nation and I think AJ from Alabama was one of them. People like that maybe wrong but in their minds their always right, you can try and debate with stupid but stupid can't debate.

Just let it go man, one of these idiots thought the SEC had 3 of the top 10 qbs in the nation and I think AJ from Alabama was one of them. People like that maybe wrong but in their minds their always right, you can try and debate with stupid but stupid can't debate.

The problem here is that other conferences end up racking up stats in their own conference, throw in a few lambs and let the computer spit out Okie State.

It BS.  Give any of the top twenty teams an SEC schedule and they will all lose at least two games for the season and take a physical beating in the process week in, week out.

If you've played the game, you know watching LSU and Bama just physically abuse opponents.  The only downside to those teams is lack of quarterback.  Imagine Luck or Barkley behind center for either one of those teams.

Hard to make an argument for a conferencebecause of scheduling,  but one thing is certain.  The SEC is a championship and NFL factory.

I agree.  Even if you believe that, at the very least just keep your mouth shut.  Absolutely no reason to say something like that to the media.  I also agree if I were an Okie State player, I wouldn't be too thrilled with his comment either.

i agree with this one, too... Eagles are a better team than the Patriots... not even debatable!

been watching the NFL for 30+ years now... there was a stretch where the NFC dominated Super Bowls for quite awhile... but there has never been a season (in the 30 years i've been watching), in which the NFC was THIS MUCH BETTER than the AFC, as a whole...

the difference between the two conferences right now is MONSTROUS!

the Patriots are the paper tiger of all paper tigers... probably the worst 7-3 football team you are ever going to see in your life...

I know this sounds like Captain Obvious, but if Oklahoma can put some points on the board despite all of their offensive injuries, I think their defense is good enough and talented enough to slow Okie State down enough to come out on top.  I think Oklahoma is overall the more talented team.  What scares me is that all of the intangibles favor Okie State.  Tough game to call, but I lean slightly to the Sooners.  Probably not enough to wager money on however.

well... before the BCS system, we had a system in place that relied completely upon human judgment... that was seen to be grossly ineffective and unfair, so it was replaced by the BCS system to neutralize (but not eliminate) the human factor...

what i hear you saying is that we should go back to the old system... which is really the subject of a different debate...

but under the system we have in place... it simply does not matter who we "KNOW" is the best or 2nd best... the system is intended to MEASURE that on a quantitative basis, with computers that use advanced algorithms... i.e., they create a formula that gives you a value to correlate with the OVERALL performance of a team throughout the season... i.e., taking into account every game and every point scored... etc...

we can't just choose to throw out the system when it suits us... not in the middle of the season, anyway...

i would definitely support throwing it out... but right now, that's obviously not an option...

i think some coaches use this as a motivational tactic... i remember Jerry Tarkanian used to use a similar strategy...

whenever UNLV was about to play a team where he was worried they would have a letdown (overlook the opponent)... he would start talking up the opponent and talking about areas where UNLV needs to get better... and how worried he is about this opponent and blah blah blah... and you would hear it every week and just laugh it off... cuz you knew they were gonna come out and win by 30, and they would...

but you gotta wonder... did they avoid those letdowns because Tark knew how to motivate them and keep them focused?  sure didn't seem to hurt...

imo, that's a variation on what Gundy is doing here... a team that thinks it is over-matched stands a better chance of winning than a team that is over-confident...

also, he's taking the opposite of past coaches, who would bitch and moan and make a case for their team, which personally i feel is ridiculous... Gundy may be taking the high road?

hard to say for sure... i don't think he's a dumb coach, though...

Whatever you say, Georgia Southern, North Texas, and Kent State.

    Iowa State?

Yeah? Your team already lost to the team they'd be playing. They had their shot, and at home for that matter. Oklahoma State isn't making excuses like I've heard every Alabama fan make (ohhh, it was just a our kicker's fault). Last time I checked, your kicker was still a part of your team, and a loss is a loss (Just like Ok State's loss, in all fairness).

And any who say OK State has no defense needs to do their homework. I guess the #1 team in takeaways (turnovers) doesn't count for shit, right?

And any team that schedules a team like Georgia Southern (who competed for most of that game) in the latter half of their schedule, just so they don't get a late season loss is a poor reflection on that team.

Alabama hasn't had a single impressive win all season. Fact. Arkansas was exposed for how overrated they truly are by LSU. Florida? Woop-de-do. Penn State? Sick. Auburn? Oh yeah? That was pretty impressive...

Alabama's schedule was laughable. And they lost their only competitive game...at home.

Oklahoma State's embarrassing loss (partially alleviated by the tragedy prior to the games events; can't say that wasn't distracting) to Iowa State is far outweighed by their impressive wins, and tough scheduling. ULAF wasn't a joke of a game, and are in fact a good team. Arizona was expected to be much better than they were. Tulsa. Then #8 Texas A&M on the road. Texas on the road. Missouri on the road. Baylor. Then #14 Kansas State. On the road vs a very good spoiler team in Texas Tech. And despite one of the toughest schedules in football, most of their wins were by an impressive margin (20-30 pts).

Really compare the stats and schedules before you say ignorant things.

If they go out and beat Oklahoma this weekend, they deserve to be in. Plain and simple. If they lose, then sure. Snore fest round two. And yeah, it was a snore fest. Maybe the two most talented teams, but they both sure as hell played a sloppy game.

There was a contract made years in advance, and Georgia Southern is a good team....look it up. Plus they are the 1st team that got a vote this year in the Division 1a since around 1983.

Every ranked team Alabama played up till a couple of weeks back went up in the ranking while the ranked teams LSU played fell in rankings.

Plus Flordia was ranked higher playing Alabama then when they played LSU, and Alabama put Florida's QB in the hospital so he never played against LSU.

The only thing Bama fans point to is Iowa State. They act like ISU is one of the worst teams in the country. ISU has the 3rd hardest SOS and is 29th in the Sagarin ratings and is a bowl team. They are ahead of teams like West Virginia, Florida, Auburn, OHIO STATE, Miss State, Vanderbilt and ALSO ARIZONA STATE the same team that dismantled USC so GIVE ME A FREAKIN BREAK about how horrible ISU is. I wish ONE JUST ONE BAMA FAN would say GOOD GOD we lost AT HOME AT HOME AT HOME AT HOME. People act like that makes no difference and and it makes a HUUUUUUUUGE difference. OSU would have beaten ISU by 50 at OSU. Home field on a FRIDAY NIGHT NATIONAL TV GAME IS HUGE. Teams that are playing against the number 2 team will play WAY ABOVE THEIR LEVEL. Bama lost AT HOME and I dont even care if it was to LSU. Also all you SEC fans that talk about HORRIBLE LOSSES. What about 2008 FLORIDA losing to a 2-10 Miss State UNRANKED TEAM AT HOME and still playing for the NC GAME. So please don't give me this garbage about ISU. Florida lost at home to a 10 loss team while OSU lost ON THE ROAD to a bowl team who plays the 3rd hardest schedule in the country. THAT IS YOUR DIFFERENCE.

Okla State going to the NCG....

Makes for good sports T.V. to give people something to talk about..........but if Okla State beats Okla they will never jump Alabama in the BCS rankings.

There's no Boise State or TCU to bang their drums about on sports T.V. / Internet...etc. this year so they using Okla State.

It's news and people are eating it up...

If these sports writers..etc does not have nothing to talk about they make shit up, that or when we watch espn all we would see is static. It's called media driven...

People don't remember about 4 weeks ago how the voters were saying even if Okla State never lost a game their scuedule was not good enough to get them in the NCG.

These are the same people on college football experts, espn...etc.

That said no way 4 weeks ago.

If any team jumped Alabama it should be Stanford at least they lost to a top 10 team......but i still don't see that happening because to many voters what to see a rematch.
