Stampeders vs Redblacks predictions

The Redblacks are 2-9 SU (3-8 ATS) this season and are fresh off yet another crushing defeat after losing 32-3 to the Tiger-Cats on Saturday. Ottawa has been terrible on both sides of the ball, ranking last in the league in both scoring and points allowed while posting an average scoring margin of minus-13.2 points per game.

The Stampeders are coming off a 20-17 loss to the Roughriders, but are still 4-2 in their last six games. After a rough start to the season they are back in the playoff picture and quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell is starting to recapture the form that won him the CFL Most Outstanding Player Award in 2016 and 2018.

While Mitchell struggled earlier in the year while recovering from injuries, he's starting to build rapport with a new group of receivers and has thrown for at least 270 yards in three straight games. He should be able to shred a Redblacks secondary that allows a league-worst 9.2 yards per pass attempt.

Meanwhile, the Stampeders defense has been outstanding lately, holding opponents to just 301.3 yards and 17.5 points per game over their last six contests.

Eight of the Redblacks nine losses this season have come by at least 11 points, so with the line opening at Calgary -10.5 jump on the faves before it gets any wider.

The Redblacks were pathetic on offense even with their top two quarterbacks, but after losing Matt Nichols and Dominique Davis to the six-week IL, they have had to get by with a slew of untested youngsters. Third-string QB Caleb Evans provided a spark in his first start but his play has declined since and he platooned with Duck Hodges last week.

Regardless of who is under center, he'll struggle behind a porous offensive line and without any weapons at the skill positions. The Redblacks are averaging 208.1 passing yards per game and 4.1 yards per play, while surrendering 41 sacks, with all of those numbers easily the worst in the league.

Although Mitchell is once again displaying his impressive arm, the Stamps offense is still struggling to punch the ball into the end zone. The Stamps offense has scored just eight touchdowns in the last five games and even their 39-point explosion against the Lions was due mostly to six field goals and two defensive/special teams TDs.

With how strong Calgary has been on defense lately, its offense has been unable to score enough to cash Overs. With the Stamps 4-1 to the Under in their last five games, back the Under 42.5 on Friday.
