The Toronto Tempo could be missing more than half of their offensive firepower versus the Connecticut Sun. Jason Logan explains why that means a monster scoring effort from Marina Mabrey.

Marina Mabrey has a flashing green light on offense when her Toronto Tempo visit the Connecticut Sun tonight.

Toronto is missing guards Brittney Sykes and Kiki Rice and could also be down starting center Nyara Sabally, leaning hard on Mabrey to carry the team against her former club.

That’s not a problem for the veteran guard, who’s shown an ability to explode for offensive onslaughts throughout her career.

Our Tempo vs. Sun predictions peg “Money Mabrey” for a big night and my WNBA picks are playing Over on her scoring prop.

Tempo vs Sun prediction

Tempo vs Sun best bet: Marina Mabrey Over 20.5 points (-110)

Marina Mabrey already tops the Toronto Tempo in usage and that metric will spike with injuries taking as much as 51% of scoring off the floor.

Mabrey is shouldering more of the offense in recent games, firing up 15+ FGAs in three of her last four outings after averaging 13.6 FGAs. That includes 20 shots and 21 points versus the Connecticut Sun on June 10.

Tonight’s prop total ticks up only two more points, despite the increased role for Mabrey. My projection sits at 22 points but recognizes a higher ceiling. That should have the Over 20.5 around -130.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Mabrey sits second in 3-point attempts, making 2.9 of 8.1 average triples per game. She finished 4 for 12 from distance in the OT win over Connecticut on June 10. The Sun sit 13th in in 3-point defense at home (37.2%).

Tempo vs Sun same-game parlay

The Tempo bring a skeleton crew to Connecticut, with Brittney Sykes, Kiki Rice and potential Nyara Sabally all sitting out. The Sun have gotten healthier the past week and will take advantage of a soft Toronto interior that gives up high percentage looks at the hoop and ranks dead last in defensive rating on the road (119.7).

Aneesah Morrow has put in just 21 minutes of work in each of her first two games back from a leg injury. The rookie forward will log more time tonight and expose the Tempo’s poor protection in the paint while also snatching offensive rebounds for easy putbacks. Toronto ranks worst in the WNBA in opponent PITP and SCP as a visitor.
