The Connecticut Sun are heavy favorites to sweep their season series when they meet the Washington Mystics for the fourth time this season.

However, Washington’s riding a three-game winning streak, and my Sun vs Mystics predictions like the underdogs to put up a fight on Saturday, August 31.

Read on as I break down my WNBA picks for today’s action.

Sun vs Mystics predictions

My best bet
Washington Mystics +8.5 (-105 at BetMGM)

My analysis
The Connecticut Sun were one of the surprises of the first half.

Fueled by a stout backcourt defense, the Sun turned plenty of heads by jumping out to a 13-1 record. The Sun offense was inconsistent, but they scored buckets in transition, which was good enough to win games, but not so good for covering the number.

Connecticut needed buckets from downtown and acquired sharpshooter Marina Mabrey from Chicago—she’s knocking down the triples and the Sun still wins games with Mabrey, but they still don’t cover the spread.

Injuries to Brittney Sykes and Shakira Austin fueled the Washington Mystics’ 0-12 start. The Mystics couldn’t score buckets when they needed them, but they were able to get enough stops when it mattered to be the WNBA’s most profitable team against the number.

Things have changed for the Mystics since the Olympic break. While they will miss Austin and her rebounding today, Sykes has returned to the court, and Washington is not only covering the number, but it’s won three consecutive games and is 4-2-0 ATS since the break.

I don’t expect the Mystics to win this game, but I do expect them to cover the number. Connecticut has big names like DeWanna Bonner and Olympian Alyssa Thomas, but they’ve only won by 8+ in a third of their 30 games.

Flip that around, and the Mystics are playing good basketball. They are riding a three-game winning streak and 10-5-0 ATS at home. They’ve allowed the fourth-fewest points per game since the break and have lost only a third of their 31 games by 8+ or more.

The Mystics are chasing a playoff spot, and while they may not win, will fight hard enough to cover the number.

Sun vs Mystics same-game parlay (SGP)

Mystics +8

Marina Mabrey Over 2.5 threes made

We’ll keep this simple today and hit a 3:1 same-game parlay.

The Sun were a bad long-range shooting team and acquired Mabrey to fix that.  To a certain extent, she has, and since the break, has knocked down 42% of her 8.5 triple attempts.

She’s cleared 3+ triples in half her six games with the Sun, and because of Connecticut’s solid ball movement, Mabrey will get enough good looks to clear 3+ today.
