WNBA Player Props & Best Bets Today for August 12: Cunningham Comes Up Big

Despite injuries to the Fever, Sophie Cunningham won't let ship sink in Indiana as she'll continue to produce on offense against the lowly Wings.

It’s a doubleheader Tuesday in the WNBA, and we’ll get a closer look at two of the league’s in-form teams tonight.

The Indiana Fever continue to throw haymakers without Caitlin Clark, winning six of their last eight games, and they’re big favorites to outclass the Dallas Wings here, while the Los Angeles Sparks’ recent surge will be put to the test against the banged-up New York Liberty.

That translates to a busy WNBA player props market, so read on for my top WNBA picks for the August 12 slate.

WNBA player prop bets for August 12

  • Fever Cunningham Over 10.5 points (+100)
  • Liberty Jones Under 15.5 points (-120)
  • Sparks Plum Over 2.5 3-pointers (+102)

Sophie Cunningham Over 10.5 points (+100 at FanDuel)

It’s all hands on deck at the moment for the injury-hit Indiana Fever. But Sophie Cunningham is answering the call, and I like this price for the Over on her points prop tonight against the Dallas Wings.

Cunningham has gone past this number in four of her last six contests, including a 16-point effort in Saturday’s victory over the Chicago Sky, and she’s a steady third option next to Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston.

She’s also been on a heater from beyond the arc. Cunningham is 14-for-23 from 3-point range across her past four outings, doing a pretty great Caitlin Clark impersonation, and it would be no surprise to see her get most of the way to this Over on triples alone.

Watch for the Dallas defense to provide a helping hand, too. The Wings have been a mess on that end of the floor, allowing 85+ points in seven of their last eight games, and coughing up 61 second-half points against the Washington Mystics on Sunday.

It could get even worse if Paige Bueckers (questionable) is ruled out, and I expect Cunningham to cash in.

Jonquel Jones Under 15.5 points (-120 at FanDuel)

Though the New York Liberty have still found ways to breeze past the 80-point mark, their scorers are clearly having a tougher time getting to their spots without Breanna Stewart’s ability to force defenses into scramble mode.

That’s been noticeable in Jonquel Jones’ recent outings, and I’m fading her points prop tonight against the Los Angeles Sparks. Jones has fallen short of this 15.5 O/U line in five of her past six games, and she only took 14 shots across New York’s last two contests.

The Sparks have decent size in the paint, led by the Dearica Hamby-Azura Stevens tag team, and they limited Jones to 14 points when the teams met in July. If L.A. can control the glass, it takes away the type of valuable second-chance opportunities that JJ thrives on.

A lengthy injury list could force Sandy Brondello into a shortened rotation, upping Jones’ minutes, but I see the Sparks clogging the paint and forcing the Liberty to beat them on the perimeter.

That suggests a busy night for Sabrina Ionescu and Natasha Cloud, with Jones perhaps sliding into more of a playmaking role.

Kelsey Plum Over 2.5 3-pointers (+102 at FanDuel)

The Los Angeles Sparks are 8-2 in their last 10 games, so no one should be sleeping on this squad as a playoff dark horse. The offense has been the catalyst for a push towards the postseason – and a lot of that revolves around Kelsey Plum.

Remarkably, the Sparks have reached the 100-point mark in five of their past eight contests, and I’m picking Plum as a standout performer tonight against a New York Liberty team she knows well from her days with the Las Vegas Aces.

The Over on 2.5 three-pointers offers nice value here, and Plum has knocked down 3+ triples in six of her past nine contests while climbing to 37% from downtown this year.

She made three of her six 3-pointers against the Liberty in last month’s matchup, and New York has looked a little more vulnerable defensively without Breanna Stewart.

The Minnesota Lynx went 10-for-21 from beyond the arc to beat the defending champs at the weekend, and that bodes well for a Plum shooting clinic tonight.
