Sliding down the playoff ladder with four losses in five games, the Indiana Fever look to get right as they visit the last-place Connecticut Sun.

Despite Indiana still down star Caitlin Clark, my Fever vs Sun predictions and WNBA picks for August 17 think Indiana can compete and cover this afternoon.

Fever vs Sun predictions

My Fever vs Sun best bet: Fever -6.5 (-110 at bet365)

The Indiana Fever have been competitive but haven’t been able to seal the deal, dropping an 88-84 decision last time out to the Washington Mystics — right after losing 81-80 to the Dallas Wings.

That drops Indy to 6-6 without Clark, who is still battling a groin injury. The Fever offense has held up, sitting Top 5 at 84.5 points per game, but the defense has cratered, a Bottom-3 unit surrendering 85.9 points over that span.

It doesn’t help that guards Aari McDonald (foot) and Sydney Colson (ACL) are also done for the year, leaving Indiana to scramble game-to-game to compete.

And yet, those are problems the Connecticut Sun wish they had. Connecticut picked up its fifth win of the season in its last game, dumping the Chicago Sky 71-62.

It has a win against the Fever this season too and is a surprising 3-0-0 against the spread in three head-to-head matchups, with Clark in the lineup for two of them.

However, each of those lines was set at double figures. Sunday’s is 6.5 points, a spread the Fever would have covered in each of the last two wins.

Despite the recent struggles, I think Indiana can gather itself to get the win it desperately needs.

Fever vs Sun same-game parlay (SGP)

Fever -6.5

Kelsey Mitchell Under 21.5 points

Aliyah Boston Over 3.5 assists

Kelsey Mitchell has been Indiana’s leading scorer in four of the last seven games, but she’s struggled against the Sun, failing to cross her 21.5 scoring line in all three meetings this year. Look for that trend to continue.

Aliyah Boston has been granted a generous 3.5 assist line against the Sun. That’s just below her season average of 3.6 dimes, and she’s crossed that total in every game against Connecticut this season.
