Angel Reese 12+ rebounds

The league's best rebounder dominated on the boards again in Game 1, as Angel Reese collected 12 rebounds in a losing effort for the Atlanta Dream. Reese will be looking to put in a similar performance as the Dream must press one of their key advantages over the Golden State Valkyries.

Atlanta ranked second in total rebounding rate this season (53.5%), while the Valkyries were just seventh (50.4%). Yet Golden State won the rebounding battle 41-35 in Game 1.

That won't be typical for this series. But even at that disadvantage, Reese was able to do work in the paint, and her rebounding numbers will only get better as the team numbers normalize. I like Reese to grab 12+ rebounds at up to 55%.

Gabby Williams 20+ points

After leading the Valkyries with a modest 14.4 ppg during the regular season, Gabby Williams has played like an elite scorer in the playoffs, averaging 23.1 ppg over seven postseason contests.

Williams is shooting better in the postseason by hitting 43.4% of her shots, and has been automatic at the line, hitting 90.9% of her free throws. That continued in Game 1 of this series, where she put up 26 points in large part because she went 7-for-8 from the line even in a low-scoring contest.

Atlanta allows opponents to shoot 46.9% from the field, the third-worst mark in the WNBA this season. Williams will continue to be the focal point of the Golden State offense, and will capitalize on her opportunities. I'm backing Williams to score 20+ points at 50% or better.

Kayla Thornton 1+ threes made

Kayla Thornton didn't hit a three in Game 1 of the Finals, but that's a rare miss for the Golden State forward. Thornton averaged 1.5 made threes per game during the regular season, and has fired away with regularity in the playoffs, hitting three or more shots from deep in five of the Valkyries' postseason games.

Thornton hasn't taken fewer than two shots from beyond the arc in any game since August, and she's averaging 4.0 attempts per contest in the playoffs. As a career 39.8% shooter from deep, Thornton is a reliable, veteran threat from range.

We only need Thornton to hit a single three to win this prop, and I like her to do so at up to 66%.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
