Two surging squads square off in the nation’s capital tonight as the Washington Mystics host the Atlanta Dream.

The Mystics enter as the league’s hottest team on a five-game winning streak, yet they find themselves 3.5-point home underdogs against a Dream squad that has taken six of its last seven.

While Atlanta has struggled against the spread recently, my Dream vs. Mystics predictions and top WNBA picks explain why backing the Dream to cover the line is the smartest play this Friday, Aug. 7.

Dream vs Mystics prediction

Dream vs Mystics best bet: Dream -3.5 (-115)

The Atlanta Dream's ugly 2-8 ATS record deserves context.

Six of those games came as double-digit favorites, where they went just 1-5 ATS. The only spreads comparable to tonight's 3.5-point line came against contenders Vegas, Dallas, and Golden State.

The Washington Mystics have covered in six straight, five times as underdogs. However, they nearly unraveled last time out, needing a furious comeback from a 20-point deficit to beat Dallas.

Atlanta has won four of the last five meetings against the Mystics, including three blowouts.

This line feels a little short. I'd back the Dream up to -4.5.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Mystics shoot the three at a league-worst 29.3%, and attempt the second-fewest treys per game (19.4). In their last four losses to Atlanta, they haven't shot better than 31% from distance.

Dream vs Mystics player prop pick

Allisha Gray Over 18.5 points (-105)

Allisha Gray is coming off a 20-point effort in her last outing against Phoenix. The WNBA’s ninth-leading scorer, Gray has scored at least 19 points in seven of her last 10 outings.

Averaging 18.8 points on the season, Atlanta’s go-to scoring thrives in fast-paced contests where she can attack downhill, draw contact, and convert from beyond the arc — boasting multiple 25-plus point outbursts over her past six games.

Facing a Mystics defense that struggles to contain high-volume, multi-level perimeter scorers, Gray’s guaranteed 30-plus minutes and high usage give her every opportunity to clear 18.5 points.
