Maybe Colorado should've waited to RSVP.

The Buffaloes ventured into Pac-10 Conference territory last weekend and were slapped around from pillar to goalpost in a gruesome 52-7 beating at the hands of California.

It was not exactly the impression Colorado expected to make - especially since the school has recently accepted an invitation to join the Pac-10 and was coming off an impressive 24-3 win over Colorado State in the season opener.

The mistake-prone Buffaloes turned the ball over five times and fell behind 31-0 at halftime en route to absorbing their 13th straight road defeat in a game that was every bit as lopsided as the scored indicated.

Leaving the memory of that desultory performance on the West Coast will be the immediate task, when Colorado hosts high-scoring Hawaii of the Western Athletic Conference in its home opener on Saturday.

Junior quarterback Tyler Hansen will be looking to bounce back after throwing three interceptions and getting sacked six times by California.

One of the picks came when he attempted a left-handed pass that was returned for a touchdown in the final 30 seconds of the opening half. He finished 18 of 34 for 166 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Colorado's ground game also didn't do much. Rodney Stewart followed up his 16-carry, 67-yard effort in the season opener by managing 78 yards on 29 carries.

The Buffaloes will be looking to get Stewart untracked this week to keep the Warriors' quick-strike offense off the field.

Hawaii (1-1) has put up 67 points in its first two games, getting outscored by Southern Cal 49-36 in its opener before rallying with a 31-28 win at Army last weekend.

Playing in an emotional game at West Point on 9/11, Hawaii appeared on its way to a surprisingly easy victory after bolting out to a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Instead, the Warriors needed a 31-yard field goal from Scott Enos with 7 seconds to play after the Black Knights had ripped off 28 unanswered points to grab the lead.

Army piled up 250 yards on the ground to just 10 for Hawaii, but a fumble with under a minute to play opened the door for Enos’ winning field goal.

Quarterback Bryant Moniz connected with wide receiver Royce Pollard on catches of 13 of 31 yards to put the Warriors in position for the game-winning kick.

Moniz threw for 343 yards and three touchdowns on 25-of-36 passing. Kealoha Pilares hauled in six catches for 104 yards and a touchdown and Pollard had five receptions for 94 yards and a score. Pilares has four touchdown catches this season – all for at least 30 yards.

Hawaii is 0-10-1 in its last 11 games against Big 12 opponents, although it has not faced a conference team since the league was formed in 1996.
