The Premier League season opens on Friday under the floodlights with reigning champions Arsenal welcoming newly promoted Coventry to the Emirates.
Arsenal were hugely impressive in the Community Shield at the weekend, and goals should be on the menu. My best Arsenal vs. Coventry predictions are not only for the Gunners to win, but also for Over 2.5 goals.
Read on for my soccer picks for Friday, Aug. 21 with kickoff at 3 p.m. ET on USA Network.

Who will win Arsenal vs Coventry: Arsenal -1.5
Kalshi probability: 62%
There isn’t a huge amount of value around for the Premier League’s season opener, but Arsenal to win on the spread is the best way to play the win market.
Arsenal usually start the season well, as evidenced by four straight opening day wins, but it’s their quality across the pitch that is decisive here.
Firstly, the opposition. Coventry missing Haji Wright is a huge miss, with the American scoring 17 times in 40 games last season. That’s more than Ellis Simms, who’ll be starting here, and who isn’t quite as composed a finisher, or as dangerous a dribbler.
Playing the champions on the road is as tough a task as possible for the newly promoted team, and Frank Lampard will need to bet on a number of new signings — potentially as many as five — which could mean a disjointed start.
Arsenal dominated Man City in the Community Shield, and the fluidity of their attack will be dangerous here, especially with new signing Christos Tzolis looking so threatening last weekend.
His passing and deliveries were exceptional, and he should be able to play teammates into dangerous positions against what is basically still a Championship defense.
TOP PICK
Arsenal vs Coventry Over/Under pick: Over 2.5
Kalshi probability: 60%
Backing Over 2.5 goals seems like the best angle to attack this game. Coventry will play bravely, and they potentially have a higher chance to score with both William Saliba and Jurrien Timber missing — both regular starters in Mikel Arteta’s back four.
However, Arsenal will likely score the bulk of the goals. Kai Havertz is likely to get the start up front at the expense of Viktor Gyokeres, and the German is the better fit for this team.
He isn’t a traditional striker, but his movement into the channels, as well as his ability to hold up the ball and play it into the two wide forwards, or Martin Odegaard, are key.
The World Cup might mean we see Bukayo Saka from the bench, but that could be a terrifying sight for Coventry’s defense if the England man comes on against tired legs with 30 minutes to go.
Arteta has options in attack with Noni Madueke, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, and Gyokeres, all of whom could influence the game if they come on.
Coventry allowed 45 goals in 46 Championship games last season, and against this level of attack, they'll face a steep learning curve.
