Timo Meier is the most efficient shot-generator in the NHL, ane he'l have plenty of opportunities against a banged-up Senators squad missing a couple of its best two-way players.

Timo Meier has tested opposing goaltenders more frequently than anybody, leading the league in shots on goal per 60 minutes played.

Rested and at home against a team missing some of its best two-way players, my Senators vs. Devils prediction backs the New Jersey Devils' (55%) power winger to have another active shooting performance tonight.

Let's take a closer look at my NHL picks for Monday, Oct. 12.

Senators vs Devils prediction: Devils moneyline

I like the New Jersey Devils to win up to 58%.

Their improved depth and pace have allowed them to tilt the ice and spend more time on the front foot. They rank eighth in expected goals share at 5-on-5 and seventh when including special teams.

Normally strong at dictating terms of the game, the Ottawa Senators have not been nearly as sound thus far. They sit 21st in xGF% at 5-on-5 and 23rd across all situations.

Artem Zub may be ready to return, but they're still missing key players in William Eklund and Jake Sanderson, which has thinned out their lineup and removed a lot of play-driving and two-way ability from the equation.

The Devils — who’ve only played four games and are yet to leave the Metro area, even in preseason — should take advantage.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Tage Thompson is the only player within two shots on goal of Timo Meier in SOG per 60 minutes played. New Jersey's big-ticket winger is producing them with extreme efficiency.

Senators vs Devils combo

I’m combining Devils moneyline with Timo Meier shots and Luke Evangelista to notch a point. Meier is piling up shots more efficiently than anybody in the NHL and has attempted at least seven each time out.

For reference, Meier recorded 3+ shots on target in 89% of games last year when shooting seven times or more. He averaged 5.1 shots on goal in those games.

Evangelista pairs nicely with Meier as a pass-first player on the same unit. He also skates on the No. 1 power play and has exposure to all of the team’s best weapons.

Senators vs Devils combo

  • Devils moneyline
  • Luke Evangelista Over 0.5 points
  • Timo Meier Over 2.5 shots

Senators vs Devils player prop: Timo Meier Over 2.5 shots

Meier leads the Devils with a whopping 22 shots on goal through just four games, and I’m playing him for 3+ up to 61%. He's generated shots with extreme efficiency, pacing the NHL with 18.4 shots on target per 60 minutes.

This isn’t a case where the volume is modest, and he’s simply been accurate with his shots. He's posted strong underlying outputs.

Meier is averaging more than 25 attempts per 60 minutes and has generated at least seven in all four games.

His bread and butter is shooting from the slot. The Senators haven’t been as stingy defending there, sitting 19th in slot shots allowed.

Senators vs Devils goal scorer: Timo Meier

Meier leads the league in shot-generating efficiency, and yet he hasn't scored a goal. Even just a few games into the season, that's abnormal.

Every player in the Top 20 in SOG/60 has found the back of the net at least once — except Meier.

He is a career 10.5% shooter, and the opportunities are there consistently, so Meier will break through sooner rather than later.

Given the Senators are giving up plenty of looks from his primary shooting zone, and missing several key players, this is a sneaky-good spot for Meier to get his first.
