The New York Rangers fell short in a very important game last night, but the Flyers had a much worse showing, losing 9-2 to the Washington Capitals.

New York will look to have a strong bounce-back game against a weak opponent as it has much more to play for in this matchup with a valuable two points on the line.

Can Philadelphia play major spoiler as the heavy underdog or will the visiting side prove why it is the betting favorite? Find out now in our NHL betting picks and predictions for Rangers vs. Flyers on Wednesday, April 13.

Rangers vs Flyers picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Moneyline analysis

These two teams met back on April 3 and the Rangers completely dominated the Flyers, but Martin Jones had one of the best games of his career. New York outshot it 46-26, but Philadelphia was able to prevail, winning 4-3 in a shootout.

The Flyers have absolutely nothing but their own pride to play for, while the Rangers are now four points back of first place in the Metropolitan Division and only five points ahead of the third-place Pittsburgh Penguins.

They played their hearts out last night against the Hurricanes but weren’t able to find a way to win, while things got very ugly for the Flyers in Washington D.C. as the Caps absolutely spanked them.

If you ask me, New York has the obvious advantage in this game even though it will most likely be starting its backup goaltender, Alexandar Georgiev. Georgiev has won his last three straight starts and has given up nine goals in those games combined.

Philadelphia will also most likely be starting its backup goalie, Martin Jones, but Jones did make an appearance in last night's game as he had to come in after Carter Hart was pulled. Jones faced 27 shots in relief for Hart and gave up six goals.

The Flyers have been one of the worst defensive teams all season, currently ranking 27th in defensive proficiency and they have allowed 23 goals against in their previous three games.

The Rangers have been a much better offensive team and they have scored ten goals in their last three games. They should be able to exploit the weaknesses of Philly's defense and take the two points on the road with relative ease.

Prediction: Rangers moneyline (-200 at BetMGM)

Over/Under analysis

I am very sketched out by the goaltending matchup in this game, as well as how poorly Philadelphia has been playing in its own end. One specific area to keep an eye on is the Rangers' power play against the Flyers' penalty kill.

New York currently has the league's second-best power play, despite not being able to convert last night, but it does score on 25.9% of its chances. Philly's penalty kill has been very weak as it ranks 10th worst in the league, only successful on 76% of the penalties it commits.

Let’s put our focus on goaltending. Alexandar Georgiev is 12-9-2 on the season with a 3.03 GAA and a .894 save percentage, not very good numbers. Meanwhile, Martin Jones hasn't been much better as he is 10-15-3 on the season with a 3.49 GAA and a .899 save percentage.

This one is simple to me as both goalies are incredibly weak and the Flyers are a disaster defensively right now. I think this game will be wide open and have a ton of goal scoring, I like the Over.

Prediction: Over 6 (-110 at BetMGM)

Best bet

The New York Rangers have matched up very well against Philadelphia this season, despite falling short in a shootout in the last meeting between these two teams. They have won two of the previous three games and have taken five out of six possible points against the Flyers.

Even though Georgiev hasn’t been consistent all season, he has still won his last three straight games and five out of his last six so he is feeling a little bit of confidence coming into this one. Looking at his season averages, it is very unlikely Martin Jones will have as good a performance as he had the last time he played the Rangers.

New York can flat out score goals. Chris Kreider has three tallies in his last two games and is trying to tie the franchise record of 54, currently sitting with 50. I think the Rangers continue to roll offensively and take care of this game in regulation.

Pick: Rangers 3-way moneyline (-130 at BetMGM)
