Oilers vs Islanders Prediction, Picks & Same-Game Parlay for Tonight’s NHL Game

Andrew Mangiapane has benefited from playing alongside Connor McDavid on the Oilers' top line. That combo will again prove fruitful as Edmonton thumps the hometown Islanders.

The Edmonton Oilers will look to make it three straight wins when they visit the 0-3 New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Thursday, October 16.

My favorite Oilers vs. Islanders predictions and NHL picks are calling for Edmonton to win convincingly and hand New York its fourth consecutive loss tonight.

Oilers vs Islanders prediction

Oilers vs Islanders Best bet: Oilers -1.5 (+135)

The Edmonton Oilers have sneaky forward depth with a number of youngsters filling out the lineup well to start the season.

Edmonton also sports the fourth-highest expected goals percentage at 5-on-5 through three games while holding opponents to the fourth-lowest goals and lowest expected goals per 60 minutes.

I also give them a boost when superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are centering separate lines because they’re far more difficult to match up against. Of course, head coach Kris Knoblauch always has the luxury of having McDavid and Draisaitl jump the boards together for spells, too.

Additionally, Edmonton has been solid on special teams, with a 22.2 power-play percentage that’s likely to only improve, and a high-end 88.9 penalty-kill percentage.

Finally, the New York Islanders are 0-3 and don’t have the lineup — particularly the defensemen — to hang with the Oil, and have allowed the fourth-most goals per game (4.33).

Oilers vs Islanders same-game parlay

While I expect the Oilers to put goals on the board and do the heavy lifting for this Over, the Islanders have been generating offense and driving 5-on-5 possession, too.

New York sports a middling 14th-ranked 2.50 xGF per 60 while posting a fifth-ranked 54.7 CF%.

Turning to Edmonton winger Andrew Mangiapane, he’s penciled to skate with McDavid on the No. 1 line, and the first-year Oiler has found the scoresheet in all three games. Plus, as noted, the Islanders have allowed a healthy 13 goals and 13.76 expected goals through just three games.
