Expert NHL moneyline picks: Nov. 7
Panthers vs. Capitals pick:
Panthers
Logan Thompson has been a shell of his former self lately. He's allowed eight goals over his last two starts and owns a .789 save percentage in November. The Panthers get the best of him today.
Blues vs. Predators pick:
Predators
The Predators are playing some tremendous hockey, winning three straight games against the Lightning, Hurricanes, and Avalanche. A murderers' row of elite teams. Let's ride that high.
Rangers vs. Kraken pick:
Rangers
The Rangers rank ninth in expected goals (first in high-danger shots) and have continued to battle despite losing Igor Shesterkin for the season. Their league-best penalty kill should help neutralize Seattle's offense, and with New York holding the advantage at five-on-five, I'll roll with the Blueshirts to get the job done.
Devils vs. Islanders pick:
Devils
Jake Allen gets the nod against a team scoring just 2.8 goals per game. Let's ride with one of the hottest teams on the ice right now - the Devils have won three straight.
Mammoth vs. Senators pick:
Mammoth
The Mammoth run one of the best offenses in hockey, ranking second in expected goals in the NHL behind just the Hurricanes. With their first-ranked power play unit up against a team averaging 13 penalty minutes per game, I'm all over Utah here.
Blackhawks vs. Hurricanes pick:
Hurricanes
Hydrogen bomb vs. coughing baby. That's the meme that comes to mind for this matchup. The Hurricanes rank third in goals scored, first in shots allowed, and boast the NHL's 12th-best power play. Against an opponent ranking in the bottom 10 in virtually every metric that matters, Carolina should have no trouble taking care of business.
Lightning vs. Wild pick:
Lightning
One of the best games on the slate, and I'm running with the Lightning. Minnesota is coming in on a back-to-back, and Tampa has already proved it can take down the juggernaut, beating them 3-2 a month ago. Backup Calvin Pickard is in net, and he'll have his hands full.
Sharks vs. Stars pick:
Stars
I don't trust the Sharks whatsoever. What a disappointing hockey team this year. Their struggling offense (2.44 goals per game) will have difficulty finding the back of the net against one of the best defensive teams in hockey.
Canadiens vs. Leafs pick:
Leafs
Jacob Fowler finally showed a crack in his armor, surrendering four unanswered goals against the Jets in a historic collapse. Meanwhile, the Leafs are finally getting healthy, with John Tavares set to return and provide some much-needed depth to a forward group that's sorely missed his presence. Leafs win a close one on Saturday night - we could see some three-on-three hockey in this one.
Tap into my Canadiens vs. Leafs prediction for a deeper look.
Penguins vs. Kings pick:
Kings
The Penguins are in a tailspin and are losers of four straight games. Meanwhile, the Kings are coming off their best game of the season, beating the Sharks 7-2. Arturs Silovs gets the nod for Pittsburgh today, and his -1.2 goals saved above expected won't be doing the Pens any favors.
Red Wings vs. Avalanche pick:
Avalanche
Colorado's elite talent, ability to dominate possession, and ability to generate high-danger scoring chances (fifth in expected goals) at five-on-five give it a strong chance to beat a Red Wings team coming off back-to-back losses.
Canucks vs. Oilers pick:
Oilers
The Canucks are in for a long night against the best offense in hockey. Allowing an NHL-worst 4.61 goals per game is a recipe for disaster; against a defense this vulnerable, Connor McDavid is going to feast.
Today's NHL moneyline combo
The Avalanche bring one of the most explosive offenses in hockey, the Devils have the speed and skill to overwhelm opponents, and the Mammoth have the offensive depth to make life miserable for opposing defenses. At 4.48x, we'll take that price all day long.
