Toronto is coming off its most impressive performance of the young season, and I'm riding that momentum in my Maple Leafs vs. Mammoth predictions.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have a 41% win probability at Novig against the Utah Mammoth, and that's a huge misprice in my opinion; let's cash an underdog winner, shall we?
Tap into my NHL picks for Tuesday, Oct. 13, and let's sweep the slate one more time.
TOP PICK
Maple Leafs vs Mammoth prediction: Maple Leafs
I truly don't understand this pricing, which is why we should take a shot on the Toronto Maple Leafs as massive underdogs in Utah tonight.
Toronto comes into Tuesday's contest after dismantling the Stanley Cup favorites, the Colorado Avalanche, and now get a team sitting 20th in expected goals against. Granted, the Utah Mammoth are one of the better teams in the league offensively and hold the best 5-on-5 expected goal share in the NHL, but if the Leafs can clean things up in their own end and play a disciplined brand of hockey, this price is closer to a pick 'em for me.
I'd play this to 45%.

Maple Leafs vs Mammoth combo
William Nylander is due for some heavy minutes tonight and has been firing the puck on net all season, averaging close to seven shot attempts per game. Three shots on goal should be a cakewalk for him.
On the other side is Dylan Guenther, who's come back down to Earth after a strong start to the season. Playing against a leaky defense, and anchoring the top power-play unit, should give us the volume we need to find the scoresheet.
Maple Leafs vs Mammoth combo
- Toronto Maple Leafs +1.5
- William Nylander Over 2.5 SOG
- Dylan Guenther 1+ points
Maple Leafs vs Mammoth player prop: William Nylander 3+ SOG
Nylander has been Toronto's best player through the first six games of the season, and I expect him to log a ton of ice time against one of the NHL's better teams. He's averaging nearly seven shot attempts per game, 21 minutes of ice time per night, has cashed this prop in back-to-back contests, and should be the catalyst in the offensive zone once again.
With that kind of volume, I love his chances of keeping the streak alive.
Maple Leafs vs Mammoth goal scorer: Auston Matthews
Don't look now, but Auston Matthews is all the way back. The Leafs' captain is 20th in hockey in expected goals for in all situations, and is 30th in high-danger shots. He's seemingly fully healthy now and creating offense for himself like we never saw him do last year.
Matthews has scored in three of his last four games and is in line for another against Utah - let's find some twine.
- Top picks: 4-3, +1.34 units
