Expert NHL moneyline picks: October 13
Devils vs. Red Wings pick: Red Wings
The Devils are in a tough schedule spot, traveling from New Jersey overnight.
The Red Wings have been unlucky to get out of the gate at 1-3-1, considering they're eighth in expected goals for (the Devils are seventh).
Panthers vs. Blue Jackets pick: Blue Jackets
The Panthers are averaging just two goals per game, and are bottom third in both power play and penalty kill percentage.
Florida just played yesterday (a 5-3 loss to the Sabres), while the Blue Jackets are relatively fresh, having played only four games this season.
Sabres vs. Canadiens pick: Canadiens
The Sabres' 30th-ranked PK might be the cure for what ails the Canadiens PP unit, which is just 1-for-17 so far after being a Top 10 unit last season.
Add in the fact that Buffalo just played yesterday and has to travel, and I like Montreal here.
Capitals vs. Hurricanes pick: Capitals
The Hurricanes have won five straight, but the Capitals were able to beat them back on Oct. 2.
Carolina's win streak has been padded by wins over the Flyers (twice), Blackhawks, and Canucks, so I'd rather back the Caps at a nice price.
Kraken vs. Flyers pick: Kraken
The Kraken have scored 5+ goals in three of their last four, while the Flyers are dead-last in xG%. Philly has been held under 20 shots in four of its last five, too.
I'll gladly take the plus-money with Seattle.
Lightning vs. Rangers pick: Rangers
The Lightning may have won four straight, but they were blown out 5-1 by the Rangers at MSG earlier this month.
Dylan Garand is holding down the fort well enough between the pipes sans Igor Shesterkin. I'll take New York at a generous price as it looks to make it six wins out of seven.
Blues vs. Senators pick: Blues
The Blues have won this head-to-head three straight times, and the Senators are playing the latter half of a back-to-back with travel added. I'm not keen on paying juice with Ottawa in this situation.
Canucks vs. Islanders pick: Islanders
The Canucks are getting some of the worst goaltending in the NHL, and the PK is operating at a brutal 52%.
The Islanders should score a PP goal for a fifth straight game and roll to victory.
Penguins vs. Blackhawks pick: Penguins
The Penguins are no great shakes at 15th in xG%, but the Blackhawks are much worse at 30th. Chicago is getting outshot by nearly nine shots per game.
Pay the price with Pittsburgh as it looks for a fourth straight H2H win.
Wild vs. Jets pick
Check back soon!
Avalanche vs. Stars pick: Avalanche
Unstoppable force meets immovable object as the Avalanche's top offense by goals per game meets the Stars' top-ranked defense by the same measure. The problem for Dallas is that their offense is meek (27th in GPG), and Matt Duchene just hit the IR.
Roll with Colorado.
Golden Knights vs. Predators pick
Check back soon!
Maple Leafs vs. Mammoth pick: Mammoth
This game offers another huge xG% disparity, with Utah ranking fourth and Toronto 27th. Things won't get better on the Maple Leafs' blue line with Chris Tanev set to miss the next three games.
Flames vs. Ducks pick: Ducks
The Ducks just handed the Flames their fifth straight loss on Saturday. Calgary is also a poor 23rd in xG%.
There's little to suggest Anaheim won't skate away with the win in this spot.
Oilers vs. Kings pick: Kings
The Kings have opened the year with three straight losses, all by one goal. The Oilers have won four straight, but it's not as though they've overwhelmed their opponents with shots (17th).
I sense a minor upset in the making here.
Bruins vs. Sharks pick: Bruins
The Bruins are 11th in xG%, while the Sharks are 31st. San Jose has yet to beat anyone in regulation, while Boston has won its last two by an 11-2 aggregate.
This price is more than fair on the Bruins.
