Hurricanes vs Rangers prediction

Hurricanes vs Rangers Best bet: Over 5.5 (-120)

The New York Rangers have struggled to put the puck in the net this year, but they slowly appear to be turning a corner.

They’ve scored seven goals over the past two games, despite facing an Oilers squad that ranks second in shots against and a Kraken team that sits sixth in goals against.

New York finding the back of the net at an increased rate is long overdue. The Rangers have generated 3.24 expected goals per 60, yet that’s translated to an average of 2.36 goals — nearly a full goal below expectation per game.

Whether the Rangers lack scoring depth or not, it’s simply not sustainable for the team to continue coming out empty-handed while creating a healthy chunk of opportunities.

The looks should continue to be there against the Carolina Hurricanes. They're severely undermanned on the back end due to injuries to Jaccob Slavin, K’Andre Miller, and Shayne Gostisbehere.

Not to mention, the Hurricanes do not defend nearly as well on the road. That was the case last season and has carried forward, with the ‘Canes sitting 27th in 5-on-5 expected goals against.

Carolina will need to score to keep up, and, even against Igor Shesterkin, there’s reason to believe it can do so. It's scored at least three times in seven straight against New York.

Hurricanes vs Rangers same-game parlay

New York has struggled to convert chances this season, and Adam Fox still leads the team in assists while pacing for over 50. As the goals increase in rate, his production should soar even higher.

Seth Jarvis and Sebastian Aho rank No. 1 and No. 2 on the Hurricanes in expected goals. They’re generating more chances than anybody, and Nikolaj Ehlers plays with them at 5-on-5 and on the power play, making him a likely candidate to pick up a helper.
