Hurricanes vs Islanders Predictions, Picks, and Odds for Saturday's NHL Playoff Game

With the season on the line, the New York Islanders will have to throw everything including the kitchen sink at the Carolina net in hopes of staving off elimination for one more night. At the center of it all should be Kyle Palmieri who has been a driving force for the Isles this postseason.

The New York Islanders are looking to stay alive as they host the Carolina Hurricanes at UBS Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Hurricanes are big favorites on the NHL odds board as they go for the sweep.

The Carolina Hurricanes have played their game to perfection through three games of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They’ve also gotten some terrific goaltending from Frederik Andersen in net — apart from his Game 2 outlier.

The Isles held a 3-0 lead -- and 3-1 third-period lead -- in Game 2 before the Hurricanes stormed back to win 5-3 with a 39-12 shots advantage. The Canes kept that momentum with a 3-2 win on Thursday night.

Can the Canes close things out with a sweep? Read on for our Hurricanes vs. Islanders predictions and NHL picks on Saturday, April 27th.

My best bet

My analysis

The New York Islanders gave it their all to make it into the Stanley Cup Playoffs with an 8-0-1 finish and a 10-2-1 stretch in their final 13 regular-season games. However, it looks like they may be running out of gas against a superior Carolina Hurricanes club.

The Canes have come up short in recent years but finally added at the deadline with Jake Guentzel and Evgeny Kuznetsov joining the fold. Those additions give Carolina some much-needed offensive punch alongside Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov.

But the Islanders won’t go down without a fight. They’re a group of feisty veterans with new coach Patrick Roy behind the bench.

“We were resilient, that’s for sure,” Roy said after the Game 3 loss. “I thought we had a really good start. Andersen made a really solid save on [Noah] Dobson (at 9:34 of the first period). It could have been a 1-1 game right there. I thought it was a hard-fought game. There were not many chances on both sides. It was a playoff game. We had a good push in the third. We had our chances, and the puck wasn’t bouncing our way.”

One of those feisty veterans is winger Kyle Palmieri. He put up 54 points (30 goals) in the regular season and has two points in this series. He’s been aggressive with the puck as well with two, four, and three shots on goal through Games 1-3.

Dating back to the regular season, Palmieri has gone Over 2.5 Shots on Goal in six of his last seven and 11 of his last 15 games. He’s racked up 50 shots on goal in that span (3.33 per game).

Palmieri has also tended to shoot more at home as of late. He’s had 3+ SOG in three straight home games and 10 of his last 12.

Hurricanes vs Islanders same-game parlay (SGP)

Kyle Palmieri Over 2.5 shots

Over 5.5

Hurricanes -1.5

Kyle Palmieri may try his best to keep the Islanders alive, but ultimately it’ll be the Hurricanes who come away with the sweep here. Carolina has been the much better team and not even a goalie change can save the Isles now.

We’re also going with a contrarian Over 5.5 play here. Patrick Roy is known to be aggressive pulling the goalie and that should show up in an elimination game. The Isles could empty their net with several minutes to play if they face a multi-goal deficit.
