At long last, Jonathan Huberdeau is playing like a superstar for the Flames. His Calgary career got off to an extremely slow start but he's tallied 10 goals in 14 games and we like another tonight vs. Chicago.

The Calgary Flames begin their four-game road trip against the Chicago Blackhawks on tonight at the United Center, and the NHL odds have the Flames as -140 favorites.

Calgary forward Jonathan Huberdeau has been on fire with 10 goals over his past 14 games, and my Flames vs. Blackhawks predictions expect this trend to continue.

Jonathan Huberdeau anytime goal (+195 at BET99)

My Flames analysis

In his recent goal-scoring burst, Jonathan Huberdeau has scored 10 goals in 14 games, and one came against the Chicago Blackhawks.

We are going to back the Calgary Flames winger to replicate that performance and keep the hot hand going this evening, especially against Chicago goaltender Petr Mrazek, who is 8-15-1 with a .895 SV% through 25 starts.

Among the 24 goaltenders to play at least 25 games this year, Mrazek ranks last in goals saved above expected per 60 minutes. There is a legitimate argument to be made that he is the worst starting goaltender in hockey.

Now, in Mrazek’s defense, he plays behind the worst team in the league. Surrendering high-danger scoring chances at a high rate, the Hawks rank 26th in xGA/60.

Furthermore, defenseman Connor Murphy remains sidelined for Chicago. He is typically one of the team’s better stay-at-home defensemen, and the Hawks have given up 3.6 goals per game in his absence.

This opens the door for Huberdeau to continue reminding folks why he was an exciting acquisition before the 2023-24 season.

Flames vs Blackhawks same-game parlay (SGP)

Jonathan Huberdeau anytime goal

Nazem Kadri Over 0.5 assists

Flames moneyline

With Huberdeau finding the back of the net, there is an increased probability of Nazem Kadri recording an assist. Kadri skates on the first line alongside Huberdeau and has assisted on three of his past five goals.

Sticking with this theme of correlation, if we are backing both Huberdeau and Kadri to find the scoresheet, then chances are better that Calgary wins. The Flames outrank the Blackhawks in xGF/60, xGA/60, and expected goal differential per 60 minutes.
