After getting blown out at home last time out, the Vancouver Canucks look for remedies as they hit the road for a five-game trip, starting tonight in Dallas.

The Dallas Stars are red-hot to start the year, with three straight wins out of the gate, which is a big reason why they are -200 moneyline favorites in the NHL odds.

Our Canucks vs. Stars predictions and NHL picks anticipate plenty of goals on the horizon from American Airlines Center on Thursday, October 16.

Canucks vs Stars prediction

Canucks vs Stars Best bet: Over 5.5 (-125)

Since starting the year with a win, the Vancouver Canucks are now in danger of dropping three straight.

It’s been an offensive shortage for the ‘Nucks, who have been outscored 8-3 in two games after beating the Flames 5-1 on opening night.

Perhaps even more concerning is the fact that their power play has yet to connect on seven tries.

Shooting the puck would be a good start. Vancouver is 28th in shots on goal per game at 23.3, after finishing 30th last season.

They’re going to need goals against the Dallas Stars, whose resume is already dotted with signature wins over West heavies in Winnipeg, Colorado, and Minnesota.

Third in scoring a year ago, Dallas has picked up right where it left off, scoring 14 goals in three games. Only the Carolina Hurricanes have more goals in three games played (15).

Vancouver and Dallas have a history of lighting the lamp, particularly in Texas. The teams have combined to score at least seven goals in four of the last five matchups in Big D.

That includes last season, when the Canucks broke a four-game losing slide to the Stars with a 6-5 win in overtime.

Canucks vs Stars same-game parlay

Jake DeBrusk has yet to light the lamp after potting 28 in his first season with Vancouver. A trip to Dallas might be the jumpstart he needs: DeBrusk had two goals against Dallas in three games last season

Wyatt Johnston has scored in every game for Dallas this year, and he’ll try to make it four straight.
