The Calgary Flames have tightened the screws defensively of late, giving up just four goals over their last three games.

My Blackhawks vs. Flames predictions expect their strong goal suppression to continue on home ice, where they’ve consistently done a better job at keeping the puck out.

Let’s take a closer look at my November 7 NHL picks.

Blackhawks vs Flames prediction

Blackhawks vs Flames Best bet: Under 5.5 (+115)

The Calgary Flames were much more sound defensively on home soil last season and that has held true this year. They are giving up just 2.33 goals per 60 minutes in Calgary, the fourth-best mark in the NHL.

New Jersey, Florida, and — powered by excellent goaltending from Spencer Knight — Chicago are the only teams who’ve suppressed goals more effectively in their own building.

The Flames were leaky to start the year but they’ve tightened up of late, particularly at 5-on-5. Over the last 10 games, they rank first in goals against and third in expected goals against.

They’re really helping their goaltenders out, which no doubt factors into why Dustin Wolf and Devin Cooley have both posted .920 save percentages or better in their last two appearances.

The Chicago Blackhawks should get solid netminding themselves. They rank eighth in goals against per 60 and third in team save percentage.

Considering the Flames are more adept at preventing goals than finishing plays off, this game shouldn’t feature a ton of offense.

Blackhawks vs Flames same-game parlay

Blake Coleman has shot the lights out in Calgary, averaging 3.2 shots per game while clearing in five of six. The Blackhawks have given up the fifth-most shots to wingers over the last 10, making this a nice matchup to build on his success.

Two shots is a low bar for Rasmus Andersson to clear. He’s gone over in five of six in Calgary, generating 3.3 shots on 6.7 attempts per night. He will have plenty of opportunities to shoot against a Chicago side that sits dead-last in shot suppression vs. defensemen.
