Tonight marks Aaron Rodgers' last scheduled Thursday Night Football appearance, as the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-1) travel to Cleveland to face the Browns (2-1) at Huntington Bank Field for an 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff on Prime Video.

It's also a short-week coaching debut in this rivalry: first-year Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy against first-year Browns head coach Todd Monken, each making his first Thursday appearance against the other. Let's break down the Steelers vs. Browns smart money and trading splits on the live odds at Kalshi — one of our best prediction market apps.

Game details: 8:15 p.m. ET, Huntington Bank Field, streaming on Prime Video. Pittsburgh is favored by 2.5 points.

The coaching angle the spread may be missing

Mike McCarthy carries a 17-8 record in Thursday games as a head coach, including a six-game winning streak. Aaron Rodgers is 13-6 straight up (13-5-1 against the spread) in his own Thursday starts, with nine touchdowns against two interceptions and a passer rating above 100 in each of his last three.

That combined short-week track record is a big part of why Pittsburgh is favored on the road tonight — and it's worth checking whether the Kalshi widget's live trading price is pricing that history in more heavily than the point spread does. If the smart-money number is running noticeably higher on Pittsburgh than 2.5 points would imply, that veteran-prep narrative is likely the reason.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Despite declining play overall, Rodgers has been great in recent TNF appearances, posting passer ratings of 103.7, 118.9, and 118.1 in three Thursday games over the past two seasons.

Monken, by contrast, is coaching his first-ever Thursday game, and Deshaun Watson hasn't played on a Thursday since 2020 — a long layoff that cuts the other way for Cleveland.

Our Joe Osborne backs Pittsburgh to win, and cover, with his Steelers vs. Browns prediction.

Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy have been fantastic on short weeks. Rodgers is 13-6 straight up, and 13-5-1 against the spread in Thursday starts, while McCarthy’s Cowboys went 7-3 SU on Thursdays during his Dallas tenure, including Thanksgiving.

There’s some recency here as well for Rodgers: in three Thursday starts since 2024, he’s thrown nine touchdowns and only two interceptions, with a passer rating above 100 each time.

I trust that preparation edge against Todd Monken, who’s coaching his first Thursday game as an NFL head coach. It’s also a tough turnaround for Deshaun Watson, who hasn’t played on a Thursday since 2020.

Form check: both teams arrive the same way

Each team won Week 3 by exactly three points. Pittsburgh's offense finally clicked against Cincinnati, averaging 7.0 yards per play en route to 30 points after two sluggish weeks to open the season. Cleveland needed a late touchdown to hold off Carolina. Neither result is as definitive as the final scores suggest, which is part of why the market has this one so close.

Rivalry note

Pittsburgh holds a 83-65-1 edge in the all-time series, but Cleveland enters on a one-game head-to-head win streak after beating the Steelers 13-6 in their last meeting in December 2025 — the only data point in this preview that doesn't favor Pittsburgh's side of tonight's line.

Quick hits

  • Is this really Rodgers' last Thursday game? It's labeled as his final scheduled TNF appearance and his only one of the 2026 season.
  • McCarthy's Thursday record (17-8) is one of the better marks among active coaches, which is an underused stat in most previews of this game.
  • Cleveland's lone recent edge: beating Pittsburgh in their last matchup, snapping a longer Steelers streak in the series.
  • Watch the injury reports — both Pittsburgh (Ramsey, Echols at corner) and Cleveland (two starting offensive linemen out) have had secondary/O-line issues that could matter more than the headline QB storylines.
